I tried just that-moving 2-3 ft at a time, just letting the trucks weight do the work-well like I said, when the chain came tight-it was like hittin a brick wall. I smoked my head on the "A" pillar while I was watching thru the mirror. The old stump didn't even budge.

I have pulled out a few big stumps, but I waited till it had rained really hard for a day or two... that made pulling a lot easier.

Use a cable and a ****** block hooked low to another tree or stump; hook one end high to the stump to be pulled and the other end to your hitch .... the ****** block will double your pull and reduce the load on the truck by half. The more blocks you use the greater the mechanical advantage on the pull.
