3.73's pulling 10,000 lbs.

Anyone with a 305 hp, 555 tq, 48re tranny, and 3.73 gear combination towing about 10,000 lbs.

I may have a chance at buying this truck in a week or two. 4.10 with the auto. is better I know.......this is an 03 dually with only 24,000 kms.

What do you think? Thanks.

Kind of apples to oranges, but my fiver is about 10k and I pull it with 3.54's and an engine rated at 160 hp If you like the truck, I'd say go for it. 10k is not a monster load for these trucks--especially the new ones.

get it and don't look back, with 3.5 you won't have a problem and you fuel mileage will be better when empty. If it feels sluggish, snap in a small pressure box and that will go away very quickly.

As G1625S don't worry about it. My dad has a '90 with the 160 hp Cummins but he does have the 4.10s. Yes, there is a bit of difference between the 3.73 and the 4.10 but I have the 3.73 and pull close to 10,000 with my truck. Combined weight I am at 19,000 and don't have a problem. I don't think there is that big of a difference in the 305 and the 325 hp engines to really make a difference at these weights.

I pulled > 10,000 lbs often. It could do it but it was not very enjoyable. If you are a "weekend warrior" I would not worry about it... it'll be fine. If you pull everyday hold out for 4.10s.

I'm towing over 10k lbs with a Hemi and 3.73s. Not a problem. I've owned two Cummins with 4.10s and two with 3.55. The 3.73 is the gear we wished for for years.

My truck is a daily hauler with 3:73's and a 250 motor or should i say was now a 300 with new injectors from hotroddeisels.com. My trailer alone weighs 8k and then i load it from 10 to 20 k all the time and it pulls it just fine. The reason for the injectors was because of problems with them possibly from my power box. i never had a problem towing when it was stock.
