pulling 7k lbs

I know it's not a whole lot of weight but I live in the mountains. They're NC mountains, steep but short distances. I want to pull 7k lbs and not even know it's back there. I'm getting a new TC from Goerand and then just do the 3k and #10 plate. Will this do it?

It depends on what your definition of "not even know it's back there." Everyone has there own. Get an exhaust and gauges before you add any fuel. Until then it will pull 7K fine. I would suggest a deep tranny pan and good tranny maintenance. But still maybe plan on a trans build in the future.

Make sure you get a shift kit for your valve body or buy theres too...spend the money now instead of four times the amount later

it's not what you can pull... it's what you can stop..

with loads of hills, I'd be spending $$ on exhaust brakes first.

Exhaust brake is definitely in the picture. Gauges soon. I was looking at getting a shift kit. I'll do some more reading on them. I really don't know much about them. I'll search here.

Sounds like you are on the right track now. I have pulled a 5k trailer with another 2k in the truck all throughout western NC with my truck and not had any problems. I will actually be heading there a week from today with the same trailer and we will be there for 10 days.

Braking is definitely the most important thing. Next would be gauges and tranny. Then, you can start thinking about messing with the plate and governor springs. Try hitting the throttle before you get to the hill so that you have already downshifted and have built boost.

routinely pull 20k lbs with stock tranny and T/C with no problems. but I always watch my rpms and allow a gentle transition when overdrive kicks in.

your sig says nothing about tranny type?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Roughly you are doubling weight of truck. So to "not know it's back there" you would have to at least double the POWER. From a engine reliability stand point that may not be good. I make it through those NC mountains pulling far more and still stock.
