In checking at the dealer yesterday for basically the same thing or an '05 reg cab 2500, was told that SRW 3500 was only available on the QC. I'm sorry about that also, because for not a lot more $$ you get the 11.5" rear-end (and a stiffer ride when unloaded).

Its normal IF you have the Cummins in your 2500. If you have a Hemi in a 2500 then the rear axle is the 10 inch one.

Ok, from reading AZJeff's post, it sounded like the 11.5" is only supposed to be in 3500's...

I think I may have stepped on my good parts, but I'm not really sure. I have been looking for a 2x4 2500 & was advised that the 3500 had the 11.5" gears. In getting a quote on a new '04 reg. cab, a gear size is not called out so I assumed all 2500's were 10.5". Wrong. I also later got a quote on a quad and it listed a 11.5" on a 2500, so I guess if you get a reg. cab in a 2500 its a 10.5". A quad gets the 11.5 it appears.

At any rate, I was unable to find a reg. cab outfitted as I wanted and ordered a '05 today. Flame red SLT. Expect it in approx. 6 weeks. It didn't mention rear-end size, so I guess it will ba a 10.5", sorry for starting the cunfusion.

I think the 6 spds. always have the 11.5, and the automatics sometimes. I looked at the sticker of one in Nevada, IA today just for sport, was QC shortbox 4x4 with 48RE, had the 11.5. Was a 555 truck, didn't say anything about "600" on the sticker, if anyone is looking for one. Two tone, Gunmetal over silver.

If you get the non- CA Diesel, you get the 11.5. Doesn't matter the cab configuration, bed length or transmission.

I don't remember what the CA guys were getting with the SO engines, but I think those might have been 11.5's also.

joel, that is not quite right...

SO / AUTO gets 10.5"
SO / 5SPD gets 11.5"
HO / ALL gets 11.5"

Dunno about Cali though. Now I think they stopped offering SO for 2004?

Uh-oh, I think opened up the can of worms. It seems confusing, but I think some CTD's come with the 10.5", and I'm not sure but I think a reg. cab '05 I just ordered will have the smaller ring gear. It didn't say 11.5" on the print-out so that makes me think it is the smaller one. The '04's I looked at in stock with the 11.5" stated the same on the build sheet. I suppose my older '95 & 2000 also have the 10.5", and they have never given me a minutes problem, so whatever it comes with I'm sure will work out ok.
