Probably good advice. Just a little hard to give up on it when it was ordered last December and there is presently a hold on six speeds. The dealer ordered another one for me in case we pass on this one. I have a great dealer who shares the frustration of not being told what is causing the holds. I have had great luck in ordering my last five Dodge/Cummins so I guess my luck was bound to run out.

As far as my truck is concerned I am wondering if they really know. The last person at Customer Service I talked to said that they were primarily there to answer technical questions and only know what comes up on the screen.

A couple of weeks ago I was told that mine was in random quality control, the next day I was told that was not so. When I called the dealership they had information off the Insight page which I have access to and nothing more.

I am quite surprised and more than a little disappointed that no one really seems to know what is going on.

Finally got an update on my truck from DC.
My truck was released by the factory on 1/20 and sent to the Port oF Vera Cruz. It has been there on quality hold. The quality hold was for the exhaust clamp.
They told me that there has been a stock piling of trucks on quality hold for the exhaust clamp issue. As of 2/16 all of these trucks have been corrected and released.
My truck was loaded on the Vessel in the Port oF Vera Cruz on 2/17.
This is the same info on insight. Scheduled to be in the Port of Newark on 2/20. That does not seems right, I find it hard to believe the ship could go that far in three days. Then scheduled to arrive at the dealer by 3/5.

I have to agree with NJTackle on this one. This truck is jinxed. Let it go, and reorder. Unless you ABSOLUTLEY have to have a truck soon, better to reorder, and wait unti May, or whatever. Besides, by that time, a dealer may be able to locate a stock 6-speed.

There is something DC is not telling you, and something smells funny.

LHarper, there is a post over on TDR ("BX to BG") about a guy who has had a 6-speed on order, and it looked like he was affected by the hold.

Apparently, his truck just went D1. You might want to check with your dealer to see if the replacement truck you ordered might be getting a build date soon.

Wexman, thank you for the info. The dealer said Tueday is when he expects the next possible change. Will get another one, or maybe two, and be back on the road again.

c172driver, that sounds like a real good price. I'd jump on it. I'm paying $749 over invoice from AZ before the $2500 rebate. I sure would like to sell my current truck though as I'm a little worried that they might try to get one over on me if I have to trade it in.

Ordered my truck on 1-10 and then went back and changed the color a week later...My truck went to D1 Status on 2-6 (hey, it's Friday, almost quitting time lets slap this sucker together and grab a beer ). Anyway, according to Insight I have a VIN but that's it...no ETA ship date, no nothing. Actually, it says "Scheduled for build on 02-06" Nothing about actually being built..Given this meager info..what does it mean and when will I be tooling around in my new truck? It is a 1 ton dually with 6 speed and Larimie pkg. Shipping to Maine.........thanks.

Oh, probably in time for the black fly festival. Got to wait for spring thaw and mud season to be over. Don't want to dirty your new truck.

Seriously, I have been looking at Insight for a while and find it sort of wacky most of the time. Then of course the dealer doesn't seem to have much better info. Mine was shipped to storage 01.20. Reported released for shipment 02.09. I am suspecting that it is still sitting in the sun near Saltillo.

There's a real good chance I'll order this week. I know what you mean about the trade in. I still need to see if they'll take my little taurus wagon as a trade. Hate to sell on my own

Talking Getting happier!

I just read on the Insight Web site that my truck was last seen on a railroad car in San Antonio, Texas.

KZ status 2/18/04, due into Port of Baltimore 3/3/04, due into dealer 3/15. It takes 12 days to get from the Port to suburban Philly? I can drive there in under 2 hours.

Still, this is very cool.
Wexman - Mine says ship date was 2/20, but to storage. Did the site say ship to carrier or boat for yours? I hope mine doesn't sit in storage till the running of the bulls?

In other words, you are in "JS" status? Is that what Insight has listed for you? Mine lists "KZ" under current, and lists due dates and ports under future. Also, my dealer said he received the invoice. It's going by boat, because it lists ports. What is carrier? By rail? If you are in Point Pleasant, I would think it should be coming to Port Of Newark.

On edit: Insight actually lists actual estimated dates for me:

Vera Cruz 2/23/04 (today)
Baltimore 3/3/04
Dealer 3/15/04

You should check with your dealer.

Yep, says (JS) status and no future dates for ports of call.

Newark? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I sure hope not! I've seen and heard of what goes on there. I guess Baltimore isn't much better so I shouldn't comment. That website still says the port of Baltimore, not Newark.

Funny thing is I take the NJ Turpike to and from work everyday so I drive right by the port of Newark. If I stop and look close, I could probably catch the boat being unloaded!

NJ, I was just guessing on the Portof Newark, since it is closer to your area. Insight spells everything out clearly for mu truck, each Port, estimted dates, etc.

I would do two things:

Call the 800 number, and see if they know why you are in "JS" status. Maybe they are just waiting for enough units for whatever ship you truck is going on? I have no idea if that is how it works; just a guess.

Second, call your dealer. Maybe he can get some answers. Good luck, and keep us posted.
