I just tried to read the weight ratings in the dodge brochure. That was a confusing experience. Does anyone out in the real world know their weights. I am thinking of buying an 08, 3500, 4X4, QC, LB, diesel, automatic, 3:73 and I need to know the weight capacity
A) CGVW
B) TRAILER WEIGHT
C) ANYTHING TO DO WITH WEIGHT

I am looking at pulling a 38 foot trailer with a dry weight of about 12,595, a GVWR of 16,200 and a hitch weight of 2,100 lbs.

There's a bunch of neat information if you navigate around to other pages as well. There's another page that lists the weights of various options that I presume you'd subtract from the grosses listed.

 

Your MGVW is 12,200 -- The pin weight is the first weight to consider. Weigh your truck fully loaded with tools, hitch, fuel, driver and pax. Subtract that total from 12,200 and that is your max pin weight. It looks like you will be fine. I think the GCVW rating is 21,000#
My 5th wheel weighs 14,000 loaded and the pin is 3000# and I'm 23,000# on my GCVW -- A little over but it is no problem for the truck.
If you had a 4:10 the GCWR would be 23,000#.

 

Mine weighs about 8300# but that is with a 5th wheel hitch, large tool box, front end bumper, steps, and rear bumper. These trucks are way under rated if you ask me. Mine's a megacab BTW.
