I'm heading for #4 on this truck. But the dealer tells me to wait a while. He doesn't want any flags to pop us.

It's too bad I can't get him to put in my parts. I want to upgrade the hardware. Wish I could find out exactly what changes they made in the 11's.

First time post! I have an 08 Dodge with the 6 Spd. Has anyone deleted just the EGR? I like having clean air to hand off to the kids. Would blocking off the cooler tube result in a soft CEL? Got 15K miles till I become my own warranty station....

Cheers,
Ken

I unplugged the egr, pulled the plunger & blocked off the crossover tube with the freeze plug mod for about 7000 miles before I did the full deletes. Got the soft code & about a 2-3 mpg increase. After my 08 ate a turbo at 8000 miles I really didn't want any more soot in the replacement one. Just did the full deletes several weeks ago with the Smarty Jr (ME version) & couldn't be happier.

Ok, which plug do you pull on the EGR, the one on the servo or the one on the plunger?

The one on the brown actuator motor, on the driver side.

If I remove the plunger and leave it plugged in, no CEL or? If the plunger is removed, is exhaust gas still getting into the intake?

Thanks and have a great day. Will disconnect that pesky EGR today and see what happens, have a 600 mile drive today from Eastern NC back to Greenville. I'll post the mileage results (from the overhead display)

18.6 on the overhead with mixed interstate driving around 65 to 70 MPH. Its usually around 15.6. Hmmmmm, interesting....!

Disconnecting the EGR will reduce the soot output of the exhaust. This will allow the DPF to spread out the regen cycles. Meaning it will regenerate 1/3 as much as it used too. That's where you are getting the better mileage from.

By the way, I'm doing way better than 18 highway. Wayyyy better. And I think it's even better now! I did a couple of things since my last trip.

OK, **** ol me wants to know why and how! I assume that if the EGR is not connected to the intake then that soot is in fact going straight to the DPF, which should increase the regen cycle....or, what? Also what little i've read is that the DPF regens either based on the soot load OR a numerical counter in the ECM which is dependent on the duty cycle of the engine. Lots o' questions! Now according to the overhead I'm getting 19.7 MPG which I take with a grain of salt of course. This is interesting!

Look at the blumbing

The EGR is taking raw sooty exhaust from the exhaust manifold and putting it back in the intake. They also throttle the intake air which is starving the engine for air. More soot. So it's taking a percentage of the exhust and shoves it through the intake again. Catch 22. The rest of the exhaust goes to the DPF.

A couple of years ago I ran a pipe from the down side of the DPF to the EGR. I was amazed. But my EGT's were too high because I wasn't cooling it enough. I took it out with plans of making a cooler for it. But right now, I am barely producing any soot anyway, so I see no need

Just the fact that only fresh air is now being fed the engine accounts for the apparent mileage increase, eh? Pretty cool, but all that plumbing to control NOx emissions? Oy!

So, if my '07.5 went the clandestine delete route, and later required warranty service (still have a bit left).....can the dealer tell its been molested if you remove the tune and put the dpf back on and egr back together? Does the smarty or h&s leave a footprint?

all of them leave proof on the 6.7. 5.9 smarty is the only one that does not leave a footprint.
