whats the best chip/programmer for an 06??

a buddy of mine is converting from a powerstroke to an 06 dodge....he called me wondering what would be the best chip for his truck....he uses is to tow 10,000-12,000 quite often...i dont really know anything about the common rail motors, so i was wondering what you guys reccomended for it. again, mainly for towing, but it wouldnt hurt to be able to turn it up to have a little fun...
from the little i have read about common rails it seems i have seen more mentioned about quad products or smarty than anything.....he just doesnt wanna go to small and wish he woulda got sumthing bigger....

also, this truck should come factory with 4" exhaust, is that correct? so i dont imagine an exhaust upgrade is real important as it is on a 24valve..am i correct on this? thanks guys..

The Smarty or Smarty Jr. is awesome. You can also swap out the muffler for a straight though one ( I put on a Magnaflow direct fit in 20 minutes). It seems to help with EGT but not much differnce on power. I tow a 15,000lbs fifth wheel in the mountains not problem.

he can either download the aftermarket turbo software, or he can buy a quad boost fooler. I'm running the quad now, but once my harness for the MP8 gets here, i'll be running the aftermarket turbo software.

Smarty = most power with coolest egts.

That is step 3 however.

Step 1 is gauges - at very minimum an egt gauge

Step 2 is either a clutch or upgrades to the 48re if an auto.

He can runner lower settings on the Smarty with the stock tranny, but if he's anything like me, he wont' be able to resist the temptation to load the higher power settings and then he is playing with fire with a stock auto or clutch.

06 is a 4" exhaust, but the stock muffler must be removed/replaced. Either go straight pipe or a straight through muffler.

Smarty rocks. Gauges needed. Then a tranny/clutch.

You could look through the classafieds and see what they have. The Smarty is a good chip but he is gonna need gauges also. You might be able to find the bully dog with out look monitor for 500 bucks.
