Valve Body Install

Hey Guys, I'm going to get a new valve body soon and was wondering how simple the instalation is. Is it as simple as un bolting the old one and puting in the new one or is it a lot more involved? I guess what im getting at is can an above average person install this in there garage at home or should i have a tranny shop do it?

its not too bad if you have some auto experience. you have to take off the trans pan and get the stock one out, which isnt too bad (messy tho) but there is a c-clip that holds the linkage on the top side of the VB that attaches to the rooster comb that is a little tricky to get off and back on. be careful getting it back on the new VB as it tends to slip off and go flying, so dont lose it.

In my opinion:
Just buying a VB and dropping it in is not good. VB's need tuned in. I have installed several and I will tell you that RARELY are they perfect on the first try. Every truck is different, and that shows more true in trannys than anywhere.
This is what seperates a good tranny from a GREAT one. Spend the extra money to have it installed and a pressure gauge put on it with the first test drive.

I would agree with JD. If you have some $ to spend to put it in, ide do that first, but if you dont, it can be done.

I was told that when you buy a valve body you can have it preset psi from the company. Ok so let me ask this. For shift firmness say theres stock, medium and aggressive.. What psi would stock be and what psi would medium be.. I don't like the stock sluggish shifts but I also don't want no neck breaking either.. I don't want any sluggish shifts to tear my new trans up..
