Tranny longevity w/ Bullydog D/L
Tranny longevity w/ Bullydog D/L
Ok,
I've read all the threads on this thing since its inception but I still cannot gather a consensus on how people feel the tranny will hold up w/ the bullydog PUP. I have the 48re and I DO NOT tow anything. All of my driving would be w/o any load.
So without towing would it be reasonably **safe** on the extreme setting?
BTW.......I know there is no **safe** when bombing but I don't wanna go out and just kill the thing either ;-).
pay to play I guess

well.....
If your tranny is stock i would put it on the performance mode and have fun. The extreme setting is just that, extreme. I think sooner rather than later a stock tranny esp. the converter will fail on the higher setting. The performance setting is awfully good!
Thanks for the insight.........the performance setting is probably more than I need........BUT if I know I've got more I'll have to put it to use from time to time.

I'm going to tow again today and so far I plan on leaving it on kill. I had a check engine light that turned into a valve body warranty deal. The truck had been shifting weird right after the tranny service at 30k. This was with a full stock truck and no programmer. I thought maybe the dealer changed something in the tranny because I informed them of a recent pull I made on a steep twisty road and the tranny was not diggin' it. Not the case, I think they clogged something in the valve body with the service. I drove it a while to check it out and the tranny was bugging me the way it shifted. I towed with the programmer and popped a code on a slow steep hill. I was going slower than I do when I'm stock. I took it in and they said it was a valve body. Anyway, I got the thing home from the dealer and hooked up the Bully Dog. I had two error codes! I did not have time to go back so I erased them and reprogrammed the truck. So far so good. I'll post later what happens today. The ATS system is looking good. It will be nice to only worry about EGT's while towing. I need to find the $2500 somewhere. Just for info, the load today will be about the lightest I tow. It's a 23' boat that weighs about 6.5k loaded with trailer. I'm usually above 10k.
I towed the boat yesterday. It was about a 100 mile trip each way down to San Diego and the boat is about 5k. I kept it above 70 mph the whole way. It pulled the hills without downshifting and EGT's were below 1400 max and that was only for a second. I had it set on tow for the trip down and 90 hp on the way back. It's a little more uphill coming home and still stayed above 70 with no shifting. EGT's were better but the air was in the 60's.
