Straight Pipe vs. DPPI
I was wondering if anyone here had ever gone from a DPPI muffler to a straight pipe and if it sounded any different. I have the DPPI exhaust right now and I was wondering how it would sound if I pulled the muffler and put a straight piece of 4" pipe in.
Anyone who has experienced both care to comment on the difference in sound??
Thanks.

I have the MBRP system (DPPI) on my truck with their muffler and I love the tone. I had a straight pipe before and the droning in the cab started to annoy me after a while as I do alot of highway driving everyday. The muffler included in the kit is almost as loud as a straight pipe but puts out a slightly deeper tone with none of the drone in the cab - the way to go IMO if you drive alot of highway.
I like the tone of the DPPI, but feel that they are deceptive marketers. They have all over their site - 3db louder than stock, etc etc. BS, it's WAY louder than stock. In fact at WOT its pretty deafening, dont even think of having a conversation..
3 db is a lot....IIRC every 3 db is double the volume of sound. I.E., 67 db is twice as loud as 64 db. That said, it is a little misleading as it makes it sound like 3 db is very little difference.
Morning,
Never have been able to figure out haw the same system can be way loud in oje truck and so toned down in the next one. Same engine same basic body style etc et and we get a very large variable between customers. We have built a resonator for those that have a sound issue, so far it has really done a great job for folks that want a very quiet system. It's 18 inches long and needs to mounted as far forward as possible.

Back to the question at hand....it sounds like there probably isn't much sound difference between the muffler and the straight pipe....but that there is more drone with the straight pipe. Is that correct??

Piers diesel makes an eliminator pipe also, about 20 bucks cheaper than genos. Not sure if they have the one for the 04.5 yet though. My local muffler shop was able to get me one for about the same price as quoted on Piers website, plus another 20 to put it on and out the door.

It's about 3/4 down the page.

The straight pipe sounds awesome and all you do is cut the muffler out and weld a section of pipe where the muffler was. The muffler shop can probably do this for about $40..(pipe and labor)
I have had numerous pople tell me that my pickup sounds like an 18-wheeler. The smoke also helps.

There's a couple of 3rd gen 3500 duallies running around my area with straight pipes. They are wicked sounding. Don't know if I could live with the sound as a daily driver though.
