Tire Size
I am looking into throwing on a new set of rims and tires. I really like these American Racing Chrome 8 fuel rims. I am thinking 17 or 18 rim. What size tire should I go with 285/295/305? I went down to town Fair tire today. He is telling me that the 285's only come in a 60 and would only be slightly taller. I want taller tires but I don't want to get into some huge wide tires. Any suggestions? PLease put full tire size in also. Thx Dave

I would look at the 295/75/17 nitto terra grapplers if you are lookin at an AT tire. Personally I woldnt get anything less than a 315 but that is almost 12.5"s wide so the 295 may suite you better. (It may be a 295/70 but I think it is 75, either way it is 33.19"s tall and about 11-11.5 wide.)

If you do not want wide stay away from 18s
Do you not want wide or not want them to stick out?
You can run 315/70/17 aka 35 with a high backspace and it will not stick out.
17x8 with 6" backspace and 35s will not stick out much at all
other wise look at 295 / 70 17s only 2 options I know in that size are the pos terra nitto or toyo mts 35s or 315 70 17 = way more options

I don't care if they stick out. I have a set of ATS flares. I am just worried about send my fuel mileage down even lower. I figured if I got a little taller it might help the mpg's. But only if I stay with a resonable tire. I have no use for a set of 35's

OK so If I went with the BF Goodrich KO 315/70/17 What should I go with for Backspacing? This seems like an option to look into. The rolling resistance would not be all that bad. Sticking out is not a problem. I have flares that stick out 2 inches. And My ratio would drop down to 3.74.

I have H2s that are 8.5 wide and i think the backspace is 5.5 sticks out just enough to look tough with your flares they would cover them just fine. 4.5 backspace no good it will look like you have a 12 inch wide rim.
what kind of budget are we talking? Centerline has lots of options if you got the scratch
dont get any less than 5.5 backspacing
are you going to level? what kit?

I just went to a 285/70/17 Nitto Grappler, with stock suspension and they fit the wheel well perfectly. I have not been on a long haul to see about the fuel economy, hopefully it will be a little better. I will know when hunting season starts and we travel all over the US starting in October. I will be able to give some hard evidence.
Otherwise I think I made a great compromise between being to big and economical. I am very happy with the performance of these tires. The only thing I need to do is go get recalibrate at the dealer for the larger tires.

I have had the 295/70/17 Nitto Terras for about 2 months now and love them. They are quiet, ride very nice and are of good quality. Both wet and dry traction are pretty good IMO. I dont know about mileage yet but they look great!

I d go 305's in your case. You dont sound comfortable going to a 315, 35, or 37, but I think the 305 is pleanty if you dont want to put a leveling kit on. If I was going to keep a truck stock, I would go that route. I went stock w 315's and it didnt work for long. But now all is better and Im running 35 BfgMT's!

Yes I know they are 35's. And I have no use for them at all. But just like anything else I have put on this truck I have no real use for. ANd my stock 265 are still in decent shape. So really I have use for any size. But then I look at other members trucks and I want bigger tires. But here is the real kicker. Winter is almost upon us. So even if I got a new set of rims and tires I would remove them for the winter months. I just want a tire that will fill in the tire well and still try to keep fuel mileage or even gain some if possible. As for my truck being stock I am ordering a Six Gun PDA next week

Well I am not getting the A.R. rims. I went with the H2 rims. And now I am probably going to get the Nitto Terra Grapplers 295/70/17 I found a place that I can get them installed for 220 a tire. Thats tax and everything. The Toyo were 250 a tire. Plus mounting and balancing.
