I believe the reason the vent is located where it is from the factory is the expansion of GASOLINE, not diesel. Same tank for both models. Diesel does not expand much at sea level-5kft and normal temps. Gasoline however is a very different story. Expansion is exponentially higher when compared to Diesel. It is lots cheaper for Chrysler to just plumb them all the same.

come up to 5000ft @ a 110 degree day and watch it expand
