Straight pipe
Straight pipe
Thinking of putting a straight pipe on my 04 HO. Is there anything I should know before I do that. Will it still have a cat on there and if not is that legal. I live in texas and still have to pass the inspection.

Inspection's not a problem in Texas... no emmission... just a safety inspection. However, you can be cited for altering your exhaust system in a manner which creates a louder exhaust than OEM equipped. Cat... resonator... whatever they call it on yours... mine didn't have one... just the muffler.
That being said, I've never had a problem... I take it easy around the po-po though. I have a buddy that's been cited for it with a cranky lawman in East Tx.
It's one of those on the book laws that is rarely enforced... unless the fuzz has a beef with ya.

Hmm...
§ 547.604. MUFFLER REQUIRED. (a) A motor vehicle
shall be equipped with a muffler in good working condition that
continually operates to prevent excessive or unusual noise.
(b) A person may not use a muffler cutout, bypass, or
similar device on a motor vehicle.
Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995
Eww.... We're stomping all over the Tx Transportation Code these days.
§ 547.605. EMISSION SYSTEMS REQUIRED.
(d) Except when travel conditions require the downshifting
or use of lower gears to maintain reasonable momentum, a person
commits an offense if the person operates, or as an owner knowingly
permits another person to operate, a vehicle that emits:
(1) visible smoke for 10 seconds or longer; or
(2) visible smoke that remains suspended in the air
for 10 seconds or longer before fully dissipating.
(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor
punishable by a fine of not less than $1 and not more than $350 for
each violation. If a person has previously been convicted of an
offense under this section, an offense under this section is a
misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $200 and not more
than $1,000 for each violation.
Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995. Amended
by Acts 2001, 77th Leg., ch. 1075, § 6, eff. Sept. 1, 2001.
Personally, I've been thinking of going back to some kind of muffler... even if it's just a straight pass type to tone it back a weeee bit. I love it... it's loud... but after a few hours hauling the gooseneck... it get's a little annoying sometimes... especially on the hills.

A friend of mine had his done in Weatherford, I'd have to ask him who... I had mine done at Ken's muffler near Love Field.
Most shops in town will do it... it's a matter of if they have the 4" material or not. Think non-big-franchise muffler shops too

I couldn't find a shop around here with 4" pipe. All the "normal" exhaust shops only had up to 3", and then the truck shops started at 5" and went up. So I ended up just buying the Muffler Elimination Kit from Geno's. It was a little pricey for a bent piece of pipe and a clamp hanger, but it was simple and it works.
