Steering box

Does anyone know of a company that makes a bullet proof steering box?

I just replaced mine today with a brand new stock part. I called around and could not find any aftermarket steering gear. I talked to the guys at PSC and they have nothing either. I did notice the new stock gear has a newer part number than the original factory gear.

My truck has 18K miles.

The steering gear was on its last leg. It did develop some play, but last week the steering became very stiff and would not return to center. It became much worse very quickly after that and I parked it until today.
The new steering gear is night and day improvement and feels tighter than the original one when it was new. I plan to add the SSSSS steering stabilizer when it arrives shortly. Hopefully, that should help the new gear survive and provide even better steering.

There is some play in mine and we think it is cause everything else to be sloppy. My truck used to be real tight and drive nice it has gone to hell in a hand basket latley. So we have been trying to narrow down what the problem is and if you take a pry bar you can move it up and down. I had the super lift steering stabilizer on my truck and i thought it sucked but then again I put the cheap one on so if you do superlift spend the extra money and do the billstein one. I just put the KORE one on the other day. Did the dealership warranty your old one? Thanks for the 411.

No, dealer would not warranty since I have 35"'s and a lift. I bought the new steering gear and installed it myself. Took about 2 hours taking my time and doing everything by the service manual. I even drained the fluid and re-filled with new ATF+4.

Everyone is keeping thier box adjusted every 10 - 20k right? I know mine felt a little sloppy around 60k and I adjusted it. All was well till about 90k. Now I need to re-adjust it some. Hopefully there is still some left in there. I did a thread or a reply to one on this about a year ago with some good tips on how to adjust it if anyone wants to search my past reply's you'll find it.
