Steering shaft play at steering box

How much play should I have at the steering shaft as it goes into the steering box from the steering wheel? I had someone move the steering wheel back and forth, and the shaft going into the box moved about 30 to 45 degrees before the pitman arm moved.

Should there be Zero degrees difference here, or is a little play needed. Also, will the over center adjustment on top of the box tighten this up?

the over center adjustment will help this , but you should do the bearing pre-load first.
