You do not need to unhook anything to download.
As for the smoke - you can tell us tomorrow.

It's always been recommended to remove any module when downloading a programmer.

Cann't wait to see what everyone else says.

I have had timing and duration boxes stacked with pressure boxes and loaded and unloaded 4 different downloaders over the last two years without removing anything. I do try to turn off all electrical, radio, A/C, etc. But never had a problem with the boxes installed, they are not affecting any ECM readings with the engine off.

Either Bob or Marco - can't remember which - has posted that you do not need to.

Good to know.

Maybe I'am just outdated I know the older programmers and modules it was recommended as they could interfer with each other.

That's good to know.
Thanks,

I would like to point out though and maybe doesn't make a hoot of difference but when a programmer is downloaded the ignition is required to be on which would send signal to the ECM and through the modules. Maybe I'am looking at it wrong. Maybe I'am just old and outdated.

They still do put that in the instructions. It's basically to cover their butts, however, it is not a problem.

Plug and play no need in unistalling one or the other add the other. Heck you can even load a smarty tune in the truck then update it and then load over the tune in the truck. Smarty rocks. Hope you got a fuel system that Dr. P box isnt going to play well with the smarty without one dr. p by itself is bad about P0148 dtc.

Well theoretically you are correct. But the thought of removing both a TST R49 and EZ just to load a program makes my hair curl among other things.

If you are scaird you can remove the box(es) first and then load the programmer, then put them back on. Caution is never a bad thing.
