REVO & REVO/TNT, timing 2 vs 3, differences? Smoke in hot desert weather?

Hello. Who here has tried the same tunes but changed only to/fro timing 2 & 3? I have a cool PM from bigwheels94 on why less timing gives quicker boost. How much power loss is there? I might expect less noise. What else might I notice going to less timing?

I have always ran the 4.4/level 9. Lately I put it to level 7, because of how much more my smoke levels are now. Probably mostly because it is so hot today (saw 107*F. today).

Tried the regular REVO today. First I did it w/all the defaults. Then I tried timing 3, TM - mild, WG-off, RP - mild. It was hard to tell the smoke differences. I will try it again w/the TM on stock, that should tone it down a bit.

It was 107* today, so maybe, with my mods & this weather, smoke is here to stay. But I have been trying mod my truck for low smoke (stock injectors).

Any ideas for as much power & least smoke as possible, please share.

Thanx.

I think that if your not seeing any reduction in smoke down low with Timing 3, your 71mm wheel is causing too much turbo lag. I have the 65mm wheel in my 62, & I can only tell I'm smoking when the sun is out, or I nail it off the line. Cleans up fast once I hit about 15# boost. & just a hase @ WOT. I had the opposite when I ran 4.11 on stock TQM. Less fuel down low to build boost.

Maybe you are right. I sure don't feel like changing a turbo right now. Once I boost up, smoke is fine. Maybe it is kind of a double edged sword. If I turn the smarty levels down, there will be a longer lag, making more smoke. Where if I turn them all up they will smoke too.

It really seems like smoke was fine with my taste until it got hot.

I figured I would play with the regular REVO this weekend. Shall I just try all the defaults w/a timing on 3 & see what happens?

Unless I find something I love, I will try the TNT after the weekend.

One of the best things I can do is probably change the exhaust to point down after the axle to disperse smoke.

Thanx bigwheels!

OK, just went for a cruise on level 7, timing-3, WG-off, RP-default and TM-default. I went out at like 10:40, and it was still 90* out. But, I noticed much less smoke (night time of course).

I will keep playing. Of course REVO level 7 does not have the power of the 4.4. But still fast as heck for a big ole' truck.

My truck has way to much haze with the vin locked tnt/r software, but hey its a race tune. I love the power but on any and all levels and settings above 80 degrees I get alot of haze and it gets worse as the temp goes up. If I didnt live in the over populated area, with more cops per capita than anywhere else I have ever been I wouldnt care. But for my situation I am going back to the 4.1 or whatever the standard download was before the TNT or Revo softwares for the summer time atleast. I cant afford to get any tickets, and the cops love to eyeball my fat girl every time I drive her anyway. I dont need any more reason for them to hassle me.

Anyone got a copy of 4.1 wild I only have moderate, thanks Ryan.

I'm running TNT on default SW5... Still tons of power, but the more linear power seems to let the power come on easier, so the turbo gets a second to catch up. I noticed MUCH less smoke than on SW7, and the top end power seems about the same..

I do have the 65 wheel though...

Good info, thanx guys. The only time I have tried level5 is when towing (IIRC). It is amazing how much more smoke is caused by hot weather.

I am with ya' RyeThomas. If I lived in an area that was not so populated, I would never look in my mirror.

My area is 1/4 populated by hybrid/Prius people.

i have the revo/tnt, and smoke is crazy!

even on SW 1 and 3

i put Tq management on 1, which makes it a tad more controlable, but still, whenever i push the pedal hard, it will roal the coal. at actually make the turbo spool slower then when lightly pressing it, smoking out innocent people is just way too easy? any input is appreciated...

I seem to get quite a bit more timing rattle with the TNT revo than with the 4.11, anybody else have this? I am running sw5 with timing 3 (huge injectors) I then tried the timing 4 (NOS option) and not much help with the rattle. The rattle is most prevalent at 2000-2300 rpm with no boost, if I have some boost it doesn't rattle, any suggestions on how to cut down on it. BTW I am running stock rail p. Jay

I definitely noticed that the regular revo is quieter than the 4.4 I had loaded.

You can overfuel....learn to control it. If you just mat the throttle in a low boost high load situation...any heavy modded truck will just do that...try to kill the flame.

When RPMS are up...and there is boost present...I can mat it WOT and only get a puff as my boost jumps from say 12 to 80.
