Has everyone switched to Smarty POD, REVO, REVO(TNT/R), or still running old tunes?

Has everyone switched to Smarty POD, REVO, REVO(TNT/R), or still running old tunes?

Thought I would ask as I have switched REVO -> 4.11 and back a few times and keep coming to the same conclusions. Maybe we could use this thread to figure out what all the different tunes are really doing to the engine for different trucks.

Here are my observations:
Stock FP, Stock Injectors, Stock Turbo

REVO (SW#7 TorqueM#2 (Mild) RailPressure#1 (Stock) Timing#4 (Fuel Econ) WG#1 (On)
Low (partial) throttle = good revs, no smoke, less cruising boost psi (5psi), lower EGTs
Medium throttle = slight hesitation
Hard throttle = big power, lots of smoke, but only usable way up in the rpms, less boost
Engine = slightly noiser, slight exhaust haze, temperature warm-up in the morning is faster
Summary: cruising mpg in city and highway is improved, but the throttle is like an on/off switch (meaning it seems to take longer to spool the turbo and by the time it hits hard, the rpms are too high to be usable, and I have to shift). Boost psi and EGTs are definitely reduced as fuel is burning in cylinder and not spooling the turbo as well.

4.11B 2.11B (SW#7 Mild Aftermarket Turbo, Stock Inj) also tried (4.11B 3.11A - Moderate Stock Turbo, Stock Inj)
Low throttle = decent revs, little to no smoke, 5-10 psi cruising boost, low EGTs
Medium = where 4.11 shines, very linear power delivery, good boost/EGT/rpm climb, can control smoke with throttle
High = slightly less big power than REVO, less smoke than REVO (although still good amount), big boost psi and higher EGTs, although still easily controlable with the throttle
Summary: cruising mpg and highway is only decent, but the truck feels more controllable in mid to high throttle applications. The truck is more "drivable" with 4.11 (and with moderate TM, more willing to "get up and go" at lower rpms) and I feel more in control of the engine.

Comparison: REVO seems to be a toggle switch between great fuel econ, or max fuel dumping power. 4.11 seems more refined and linear, although may not return the best fuel econ or biggest high rpm power. Right now I am back to running 4.11 SW#7, but I miss the fuel econ and good winter warm-up characteristics of the REVO and that "timing#4" setting. Wish I could know which 4.11 setting maximized timing and run that (I have a feeling it may be SW#9).

I also want to know what exactly happened with the REVO being so different from 4.11 even though it was supposed to be based off of it. Irregardless of torque management setting, REVO still has the on/off behavior I am describing above (on my truck, at least), where as 4.11 is definitely more linear, seemingly more refined, and much more fun to drive.

Anyone else care to share their comparison observations?

Thanks,

Chris

I've been running Smarty from the start and it was a big improvement over what we had at the time. Each s/w update was a improvement over the previous. I believe I've ran about 7 differant s/ws and some were betas. I don't see the point running the older s/ws when the latest s/w will do just about anything the older ones would do. The tnt-r56 I'm now running has many settings and is the most powerful of the s/ws I've ran. I can just about duplicate any of the older beta s/ws with tnt-r56. My favorite was beta 44_SL but I didn't like the elevated rail pressure for daily driving. I have just about duplicated this with the lower rail pressure running tnt-r56 with #2 mild torque management and #2 mild rail pressure. Very good on the street but with more power.

I've been running Smarty over a year and a half. Best tuner or power adder by far I have tried. I have used all the betas (new and old forms) and used every new generation of website tunes as they evolved and even beta tested the smarty jr. files.

I have tnt/r (53version custom written by marco for me-- thank you Bob and Marco) and run it all the time. There isn't anything the old betas were doing that this doesn't do better so I see no need for them. And I can choose the settings to get the "feel" I like too. (like tuning to get beta 4.2 vs 4.4)

I use the regular Revo to tow with; again, I can tune to exactly what I need as far as power, smoke, TM and etc... I see no need to go backwards.

I couldn't get the TNT to work like the 4.2, so I went back to it.

I am running the TNT/R PoD on my S06 and have my original S04 for the old tunes(beta's included).I haven't used the S04 since the PoD arrived. The PoD has so much adjustability that I haven't found the need to go back to the old tunes.I can make my truck run below stock levels with the PoD on level 9.I must admit I do like the option to go back to the old beta tunes on the S04.Beta 4.2 is stil a bad mother honcher!

I posted something the other day about this. unfortuantely i didnt post as much info as you did. i had dyno numbers and frustrations.

My 03

with Revo pops and stumbles with most settings. has a loud timing rattle almost like cold cummins piston slap sound at WOT over 2600 rpm. if i add pressure is mellows a little. i lost 3 mpg with revo adn picked up a ton of smoke no mater what the setting.

With TNT i get very little smoke on SW3 pressure 1 the WOT detonation is there on ALL other settings but for somereason not on this one and i get similar milage to my 4.11 with a more agressive fueling curve which i like. much better smoke control when towing and better all around power.

4.11 i love the timing and for the most part the fueling. if i could get the more agressive fueling curve of the tnt witht he WOT fueling id be happy . so far 4.11 2.11b has worked fantastic for me i just wish i could adjust pressure with it and i wish it was slightly more agressive with its fueling curve. otherwise for my 03 towing and driving it is ideal. TNT sW3 is close but the 2600 rpm detonation issue is a major setback.... wish REVO and TNT would work better with the early trucks at least i found one setting that doesnt sound like a rod is coming out the bottom of my block. i am a huge supporter of smarty but unfortunately i'm stuck with 4.11 until they find a solution for us s-04 guys (now S-06 since i thought that was the culprit) with 03-04 trucks. i cant wait. long download times didnt bother me but REVO and TNT have driven me nuts...... i guess injectors and 4.11 program is what i'll be stuck with.....

I still want some clarification.
Why would you use the pod on sw 9 and de-power it by setting the pod to 40-50 when you can do that with the pedal? Or am I missing something?

I think you are missing something. Loading the maximum Smarty settings that your configuration can handle and then using the PoD to adjust to a percentage of that power is not the same as just using light/less throttle.

Setting to 50%(or some percentage) of max according to what I saw Marco post is adjusting all of the power settings proportionately so that fueling/boost/TQ/etc. are still set at a proper level. This provides much better drivability than trying to baby a setup on SW #9.

Just my .02.
