Quiet, Free-flowing exhaust for '06 CTD ???
Just wondering if there is an exhaust system that will flow good, but be as quiet as the stock system. Also, does a freer flowing system really make a noticeable difference??

You could do almost as I did. Put a Y pipe and an electric cutout on it. I put a 3" exhuast getting it out from under the truck. I think that cut the use of it. All it does now is make things louder and a new place for smoke to come out.

While I believe that it in itself flows 2X better, I'm not sold that adding it on will add any flow to the exhaust system. Isn't the Kitty generally assumed to be the most restrictive piece?

I am not a muffler person but, I can tell you what I have tested.
On my 06 truck I replaced the muffler with the MBRP kit and put a 6" pipe on it. When I am unloaded and drive normal the exaust is really not noticable at all. Crusing the in cab noise is the same as before. Now loaded down it definately has a much deeper sound but, I think some of it is the giant 6" tip.
On a hard acceleration run I can tell you I dropped a minimum of 100 deg EGT wise with the muffler. It may have been more but I am not sure as before I would get out of it before I melted it and I do not have to do that now.
I was sort of impressed with that sort of drop in EGT from jst a muffler but, I saw it with my own eyes!
I also thought the kitty was the most restrictive part and it might be but, I had to leave mine on for testing reasons.
