Question On Turbo Upgrade

I am wanting to upgrade my turbo on my stock 04.5' and I am needing some input as to what to do. Wasn't sure if anyone could modify the stock turbo or if I need to just purchase a new unit all together. I have seen some posts about people replacing the turbo but actually going backwards in size and performance (this I dont want). I am running a 100 hp box, MBRP exhaust system, Gauges, and Scotty III air system. What do you all recommend on a single turbo to purchase ?? I have noticed my stock turbo is really laggy in low boost now for some reason. By the way I am going to add 50-70hp injectors as soon as Don comes out with them for the 04.5'

thanks,

matt

If you're not going to run a TST or any of the higher power add-ons besides the EDM's then I would go with a B1-04 or HTB2 for fast spoolup and improved cooling, if you think you might step into some serious power down the line, then go with the SP66.

I was wondering about the SP66 and how it would run performance wise. I have seen some people say that it takes longer to spool up. Who exactly makes the SP66 and where can you look at information on this particular turbo ?? thanks for the response whitesport600

Check out www.htturbo.com for info on the HTB2 and the SP66. Pier's sells the B-1's. The SP66 is definitely laggier than the rest, but has superb cooling features. If you're not running the TST, I wouldn't suggest it.

I've been pretty happy with my SP66, made by HTT turbo

Sure, its takes a bit longer to spool, But thats without the right fuel down low...

But still with only the EZ on level 2, It is drivable.... with the TST off totally

I give 2 thumbs up

i say look into the advance diesel technology cat 4 turbo ,helped me go over 500 with no noticable increase in lag time..this is from there web site

This Borg Warner Hybrid comes with a 66mm inducer for plenty of airflow. Proven to take over 70 PSI of boost this turbo will run with the best out there. Making over 450 Hp at just 40 PSI of boost proves this turbo's efficiency. Wastegated for your trucks protection. Good spool up, and really tough this turbo is the best single street charger available. The price includes a 4" downpipe, and v-band clamp...its not cheap but spped and power cost money

All these turbos you guys are talking about are Borg Warner/ Schwitzer modified S300's.
(Borg Warner is the new name for Schwitzer by the way).

If the Category 4 has a 66mm inducer its probably close to identical as the SP66.
The HTB2 is the same as a B104 (pretty much at least).

Overall the best prices are probably going to come from HTT.

Plus with the manuals the HTT's and B1's are almost a drop in, which means you can keep an exh. brake, or at least dont have to change the downpipe.
