Quadzilla XZT with ROKK Timing Sensor

Should I be using a ROKK Adjustable Timing Sensor with Quadzulla XZT?

Does the Quad XZT advance timing at all?

Will it improve mpg?

I know on the sensor the instructions say that it is compatable, but you have to put it back to 0 degrees of advancement, I think...

I have one on mine along with the Quad standard box and I think I still need more advance because I don't get any kind of timing rattle whatsoever....

I have be running the Roktec sensor and the Quad std. for almost two years with no problems at all. I really don't notice much difference in engine noise. However, there is a different "pitch" to the engine at different settings on the Quad.

Mine doesn't get any of that. I got the Rokktech so I wouldn't have to do the Tone Ring Mod. I think I still need to do it though....
I don't necessarily want the rattle, I just want to be right on the edge of where it starts to rattle...

I have the sensor and ring mod. I can't tell any difference in noise.

Wonder if that would be ok w/ XZT box?

If you put the box on and got a bunch of rattle then you could just back the Rokktech timing off till it stopped...

Has anyone used the Rokktech sensor with the XZT while towing, or under a heavy load?

The reason I'm asking is, when I really put my foot in it fast and hold, till almost red line, I start hearing the lifters ticking or something to that effect. That's the only time it's done that, but I've got no idea what it is, not your normal diesel sounds. Maybe I'd call it a fast high pitched rattle.

It's timing rattle and it's normal with the Quad boxes on a hard pull. My 03 did it too. I'd still get the Rokktech because it helps you off the line. It made a big difference in my 03 but not as much in the 07.....

OK, I installed the XZT. Good mod for the money.

My truck got quieter at idle with the box installed. I had expected more noise

Anyway, as I said above, both sensor and tone ring mod have been done in my truck. Everything seems fine so far.

I will hookup to my 10K trailer next month for a 700 mile trip and will know more after that.

Al, I pulled my trailer around for three days this week. I kept the Quad on the 30 or 60hp settings and had absolutely no rattle. I did have one issue though. The truck seemed to have way too much power to pull that measly 7500-8000lbs around. I think I even heard the truck laugh at the load!!

This truck is awesome and all I can say is that I love the 6-speed. My 03SO with the DTT auto pulled with ease too. These trucks are just awesome....

Dodgezilla, Thanks for the replies. My 5er is under 10,000 lb fully loaded. In February, school vacation, we make a run from Boston Mass to Key West FL. for 3 weeks then back. I'm planing on leaving the XZT on 60 hp all the way. Hope it doesn't hurt anything. Hopefully I'll get better mpg than last year.

Each truck is different. Most seem to be okay with the tone ring mod and a timing box. Mine however didn't like the tone ring mod with my Quad race. I couldn't feel any difference in power, the timing rattle just sounded harsh and a bit annoying. Moved the tone ring back to stock position and it runs smooth as ever. The only time it gets any timing rattle now is, like was said earlier in this thread, on a hard pull, pedal to the floor, with the box on the 130hp setting. And even then it's only for a few hundred rpm right in the middle of the rpm range.
