Pics of replacement AFE boot

After reading the original post on this thread last week, I cruised out to my truck and took a look at the boot connecting the torque tube to the turbo. There was a HUGE tear in it! I've cleaned the filter twice, so I've obviously been in there and have had to move that torque tube around a smidgen to get that air filter back on each time, but I never bothered to look down at that boot before now. The boot had actually melted onto the turbo, and I don't run a box or anything (yet)...I just tow a good majority of the time.

So, I called AFE on Monday and spoke with Michael, 951-493-7100. I explained the situation and he said he'd get one out to me ASAP. The new boot showed up on Thursday and looks to be much more durable.

While I had the intake taken apart, I decided to remove the silencer ring, which came out without a problem. I must say, this is a fun mod! I've found myself driving with the radio off even more now, just so I can hear that turbo whistle! Exhaust is coming next week!!!

Jared

Quick question reguaring that AFE boot. I was only sent one clamp. Do i need to go buy one more? Right now the boot is only secured to the turbo, not the intake.

Just a FYI. I just now got off the phone with Micheal, and told him there was some confusion on what boot's were what. He said the shiney one was the standard boot, and the new and improved boot had a dull, mat finish. That boot in your pic look's like the same shiney one I have. I'll have the new one in a day or two I hope. I'll give you guy's the low down once I get it.

I'm not picking on your pic,,I'm just wanting to make sure we all know what we're getting. Hate to have you think you got the best,,,,,and you didn't.

It looks like you have your tube installed backwords. The 90* elbo goes to the turbo. It is made of heavy rubber.

The new torque tubes are a one-piece plastic design with two bends in it. No rubber elbows, just the couplers. I have the older style. I think it would be hard to get it in backwards.

BRJ,

The pic that Jared is showing is the right one. The better one. It shows the reinforced material on the boot. The flimsy stock one is more shiney and it has no reinforcement. I think the pic makes the NEW one show to be shiney just from the lighting and camera angle...........but it is the better one. I am thankful to be aware of this problem before I installed the "stock" one on my truck. Should be no problems with the new one. Sorry, I didn't think to take a picture of mine before installation. Good luck.

You must have both clamps on there! The boot fits ok but not tight enough to seal without the clamp in my opinion and what ever you do don't use the factory clamps like I did the first time. If you have the thinner boot the clamp will bust where the holes are for the notches in the factory boot because there are no notches on the AFE boot. I'd get another clamp on there right away. LCH
