Performance Mods input needed
Ok, I am sure this has been discussed to death over here but being a n00b to the diesel performance world I need some help....if you wanna talk Corvettes its a whole other story
anyway.....I have an 04 3500 dually that my wife uses to pull her 32 ft LQ horse trailer and she travels all over the place so she encounters various types of terrain. What is the best programmer I can buy to help with overall performance HP and TQ increases especially for towing.
Thanks
Robert

There are many out there to choose from, and different styles, ie, pressure boxes, duration, and so forth. Either the Seems the most popular are the Bully Dog Downloader, Quadzilla tow box or race box, and the Edge EZ boxes, but there are many more to choose from. All have great gains, and there are plenty of people on here who will give you their opinions. A lot of it depends on how much you are willing to spend, and how much HP and TQ you want to gain. If is is just for slightly more pulling power for hills, Quadzilla Tow box would be a great choice. Just my opinion.

If you are planning on adding some kind of programmer to your truck you should get a pyro gauge, too. It might not matter that much with a smaller trailer, but yours is pretty big. I towed my 5000 lb. boat on the "tow/economy" setting on bully dog and it just sucked fuel down. I only got about 11 mpg at 70-75 compared to 13.5-14 mpg on stock at the same speeds.
Yeah, i forgot to add that before adding a box/programmer, most people highly recommend adding a pyro, boost gauge, fuel pressure gauge, and a tranny temp gauge if its an auto. With a small tow/economy box, youll probably be fine, but for Bully Dog or Edge, definately need gauges. There are many more knowledgable members that can tell you more though. Thats just what I have learned so far.

All that extra fuel will create a lot more heat, and much higher exhaust temps which could seriously damage the motor if it is not noticed. You need the pyro to keep an eye on the temps, so as they dont get out of control. Common simple ways of lowering temps is aftermarket intake and exhaust. If it gets too hot, you will know and can back off the throttle and hcange settings. The Edge Juice w/ Attitude automatically defuels for you when the exhaust reaches a certain specified temp, which is a big plus. But its also a more expensive programmer but many have them and love them. Id get one, just too much money for me right now.

They do make good products, but they charge a premium price for them, many get Banks and then wind up getting rid of them to upgrade. And wish they had gotten the replacement stuff first.
And Gayle used to bash edge for the automatic backdown they offer... But now he touts his as wonderful.
