Ordered an aFe PG7 OEM, Is this the right path???
Ordered an aFe PG7 OEM, Is this the right path???
I have been reading a lot about these aftermarket high flow filters, and I have not yet found any real good answers as to weither or not they should be used on the CTD. ??? I haven't heard of to many pros or cons. I fully understand that Cummins does not recomend them, and that warrenty issues could insue as a result, but price wise over time the reusable filter will pay for itself. So I am wondering weither I did the right thing by ordering this filter? Right now the truck is used primarily for the 80 mile a day commute to work. The original plans to put the horse to work have been delayed. So she really doesn't see to much action. I just don't know what to think. Are there a lot of folks running aftermarket filters? Are they proving to be a good or bad choice? Has anyone had any major problems with these filters? These are the types of questions I am trying to find answers too. I checked my stock filter and it is definitly time to replace it, the question is go stock or go performance??? :-

I have a drop in aFe, and I'll give your questions a try.
You did the right thing.
I don't know about "a lot of folks" but I am one.
IMO a very good choice.
None, currently have 29,800 miles, good oil analysis, no visible grit on the intake plumbing or turbine blades.
Go performance.
Not affiliated with aFe.

IMHO, you did the right thing. I don't think the warranty would be affected by it at all. For goodness sake, these things filter much better than the stock units. I"m happy with my AFE in my 01 and am just waiting for a few miles to replace the 04's unit. I don't think I will get the entire assembly, just the drop in for the 04.
You done good.

Re:Ordered an aFe PG7 OEM, Is this the right path???
I ordered mine from Genos. They have about as fair a price as any of the others. Plus I needed to order some other parts so it only made sense to pay shipping once. The aFe website has a list of dealers to choose from as well. The prices seemed to range from $79-85 for the OEM drop ins. PS: Thankyou for the replies. I am still curious to see what others have to say. Sometimes I guess I need a kick in the rear to build a little self confidence on these types of things.

I went with the full AFE not just the drop in. They are great for mileage and performance. It's well worth it and I have no idea how any warranty issues can come up because you use an open air intake or even a drop in filter and I wouldn't want to even get itno the discussion about it but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. You will be fine, they are great additions for a great truck.

If you are going to stay stock, get yourself a drop in afe....the problem with the drop in is that the stock air box does not seal well at all.
Get yourself a AFE megacannon with the Proguarg 7 filter or a Scotty Ram Air III. Both have the washable filters and are well worth the money.

AFE states that their new Pro Guard series 7 filter meets DC & Cummins filtration requirements.
I went with the Megacannon, series 7 filter and pre-filter bag. Got mine from Mr. Bob's Distributing

PHX ASC,
I removed the baffle as well and replaced it with a 4" tube so there was no restriction. It does have a louder whine but not too bad. It is not as bad as removing the silencer ring. That was way too loud for me.
