Aftermarket Diesel Fuel Filters...

After talking to a Diesel mechanic regarding my quest for a more affordable Diesel fuel filter for my 2003 Ram HO 5.9L ... the mechanic mentioned the following...

"It is illegal for ANY auto dealer of ANY kind to tell you... "If you use anything but our OEM filter...it will void your factory warranty". "IF" an auto dealer does make this claim, they must provide the following: 1) Provide the filter FREE of charge OR 2) Provide written proof that the FTC has ok'd their OEM filter for that particular manufacturer. So, if you ever hear this from your local dealer...simply ask for the claim in writing or for free filters. If they refuse... they are in violation of this law. Vehicle manufacturers have been doing this for years trying to force people to go to the dealer and pay higher prices. Don't be afraid to use Fram or any other OE spec. brand filter when it comes to this bogus claim!"

So, anyone currently running a NON-OEM fuel filter with positive results??? I'm currently paying about $25 for an OEM fuel filter and have recently seen aftermarket filters selling in bulk for $6 apiece!!! This sounds like a no-brainer!

I'm running the Baldwin PF7977 5 micron filter. About $14 for the filter. It's much better to run a better quality (as in filtering) than a lesser quality cheaper filter. You can buy a lot of filters for the cost of either a CP3 pump or 6 new injectors.

Correct they cannot tell you to run an OEM filter.. But that can tell you that it must meet certain specs..

There are only 2 filters that meet the specs for the HPCR..

The OEM filter and the Badlwin PF7977. Of the 2 the Baldwin is the best.

So what makes the Baldwin a better choice over the OEM FUEL Filter?

Check Baldwin's site for alternative dealers, but I know Grainger's does for sure. The only reason I didn't get one from them is because I didn't wanna ship, and I'm never in town during the week. The place I picked one up last weekend from had a dozen in stock and only charged me 18 bucks.
