OEM Alloy wheels as strong as OEM Steel?

I was looking for a new set of tires and ran into a factory set of the 5 spoke alloy or aluminum wheels foudn on 2500 models. Are these alloy/alum. wheels just as strong as the facory steel that came equipped on my 3500 SRW? I am concerned as I tow a travel trailer at 10,000#.

Thanks!

I know that the FORGED rims are the STRONGEST. I am pretty sure that the rim will hold the weight. The tire is the weak-link.

BAJA MAN, as you can see in my sig I have the same truck you have with the factory forged aluminum wheels and I tow a 11k 5th wheel. I have never had a problem after 2 years now. If the ones you found fit your truck I would get them and never look back.

How can you tell if you have the forged or cast aluminum wheels?

OEM rims are equal strength. The steel is cheaper. Trust me, if they thought that the alloy wheels would be a liabilty, they wouldn't offer them.

While I don't think the steel rim is a liability. The forged rim is undeniably stronger. It "may" come in to play if you hit a curb or something. While the steel rim will have more of a tendancy to bend, the forged steel rim will not.

Which would you rather have in a motor? Forged parts or stamped steel?? All high-performance motors come with forged cranks, rods, pistons, etc.

We are talking about wheels made of forged aluminum not forged steel, right? I think a forged aluminum wheel will have more of a tendency to break where the steel will bend, not as much as cast wheels but they are more brittle than the spring steel OEM wheels are made of. Engines and wheels are two distinctly different applications. Where you may want some spring in a wheel (to absorb off road bumps), you may not want a springy crank.... but its more complicated than that.

Any of the OEM wheels are good for the truck ratings. The tires are the weak link.

I think you can most reliably tell forged vs aluminum via the part number stamped (cast) on the inside. A dealer should be able to look it up.

All OEM wheels will DEFINITELY hold the weight they are rated for.

If it comes on the truck, whether an option or not, it will be good to at least the ratings of the truck.

The forged version have a polished finish, the cast are dull or have a cladding that has been chromed.

I can tell you from first hand experience with the forged wheels they will bend if hit hard enough............the cast wheels are more apt to crack or break, but the forged can also crack,Sell me the extra set

The wheels with the chrome cladding are Forged aluminum also. Dodge doesn't make a cast aluminum wheel. At least not 06 and above.
