OEM 5 star Alloy wheel fit 99 CTD? vs. chrome steel wheel
I am have a 1999 CTD with the stock steel wheel (chrome covered) and would like to know if the newer wheels from the 01 and up will fit. I am talking about the original Dodge alloy 5 star wheel will fir or are the brakes an issue? Any help would greatly be appreciated
Not true - Not any wheel will fit any year.
The rear aluminum wheels on 2000 and up will not fit previous years. The diameter of rear brake drums is too big.
You have to have rear disk brakes or a different drum set which has smaller diameter but wider in size, otherwise the rim will not fit.
Some people had the drum turned, but I think it's too dangerous when you have 1/8" only clearance between your rim and the brake, besides you reduce the capability to dissipate heat and weaken the drum.
The only way out is to get aftermarket or 3rd gen 17" wheels
