Isn't the AC exchanger in front of the intercooler ?

If I had to explain the better A/C, I would have guessed lower exhaust temps, thus lower temps in the engine compartment, thus less heat pickup by the HVAC box = cooler air in the passenger compartment ?

I think on my truck, it goes trans cooler, intercooler, AC and then the engine radiator, front to back. That is, I'm assuming the AC heat exchanger is bare aluminum and not black like the rest of the components. I didn't follow all of the lines to their respective places as it's kind of dark out now......

The intercooler has the 3ish inch pipes coming off of it.

The stackup is (for the manual trannies) front to rear is the A/C condenser, aftercooler and then the radiator.

I got my mine monday. My truck now is a little louder at idle and is alot more responsive from idle to 1500 rpm were the power usually begins to come on. I haven't got to check mileage yet or tow anything but my initial feelings are I like this thing. I typically run the box on the low setting and now I can turn it off and the truck still has plenty of pep. I'll get to tow my horse trailer next week to south missouri and climb some good hills then I will know more.

Appydriver,
Nice looking rig. Might want to crank the VA box up to the high setting and check your EGTs while towing. Should see a drop in temps.

So it sounds like Quad is coming out with a timing only module that can stack with his current boxes that will do this all electronically and allow even more advance (18 deg.)?? Sounds like I should wait for that ...

Paul at Rokktech gave me some info on what's going on with the A/C. The engine is now thermally more efficient so the computer doesn't cycle the A/C on and off as often when the coolant temperatures rises. So now at normal operating temps the A/C compressor stays on longer. Apparently the computer will turn the A/C compressor off to decrease the temp on the condenser so in return will help reduce the hot air passing through the aftercooler and radiator (the temp sensor is on the radiator).
Hope this makes sense.

I just did the tone ring mod today. Kind of a PITA on a 4.5 (the shroud get in the way). But I elongated the dowel hole about a 1/16th of an inch on the ccw side and then advanced the ring cw as far as it would go (about one tooth). The idle was VERY smooth. If you couldn't hear the truck, you wouldn't know it was running. Absolutely no movement or vibration. When I took it for a test drive, I really didn't notice a whole lot until I came to a stop and then stomped on it. My truck has never been able to spin the tires other than a little chirp every once in a while. This time I laid stripes for 40 or 50 feet! I did it again to see if it was a fluke and it did it again! I think this might explain why my buddies truck has always felt like it had more low end and he could spin his tires at will, inaccurate factory timing. I'm very pleased so far, and expect to see some improvement in mileage as well.

Could this tone ring mod be done with a Juice/Attitude on the truck????

FYI: "about 1/16th of an inch" = 60 thou = 3 degrees.

I know I wasn't very precise with my measurements, but the problem with this whole tone ring mod is there doesn't seem to be a good starting point of reference. Soooo, I figured if I went too far, I would back it off a little, but at this point, it looks like I won't have to. Dorkweed, I did mine in conjunction with the Quad race box based on comments given by Qzilla, and I believe your Juice is similar. I would say give it a try, and if your engine doesn't respond, you can just set it back to stock and you'll only be out a couple hours of wrenching.

I used a milling machine with the DRO, so it wasn't a problem. Do you have a calipers ? If so, all you need to do is measure your slot width before and after.

"Soooo, I figured if I went too far, I would back it off a little, but at this point, it looks like I won't have to."

I'm not criticizing. I'm wondering if 2.22 degrees is enough. My engine is a tad louder at idle, but that just might be me.

I'll throw my two cents in as well. I finally did the tone ring mod last night. As far as I can see, there's no reason to spend money on the modded sensor if you know how to use tools I'm with cschulz above when he says there is know good starting reference mark. I'll explain what I mean. I used a chisel to make reference marks on the balancer and the tone ring so I could adjust it just one tooth. Then in the attempts to get the 4 crank pulley bolts (15mm) loose I turned the engine over quite a bit. By the time I got all four bolts loose the marks were on the top where I couldn't see them but i figured I'd elongate the whole in the tone ring and then line them back up after I put the ring and pulley back on.

I installed everything finger tight and turned the motor over with the flywheel to be able to see the marks again. Thats when I realized that the factory hole in the balancer pulley had so much slop around the pin that you could move the balancer back and forth about one tooths worth by itself, thus rendering my origional mark on the balancer useless. I tried to center the balancer over the pin, then advanced the tone ring about one tooth. I snugged up the balncer bolts and put the belt back on and started the truck. It seemed to run the same with no poblems so I readjusted the balancer and the tone ring so they where both advanced as far as I could get them to turn. I would guess that I advance it at least 3 or 4 degrees.

So far I've only driven about 40 miles but so far so good. My truck has always had a decent knock at idle and really seems to have a lot of pinging and pre ignition noises at different times or different throttle positions. When I got my Quad box that seemed to make some of the pinging areas louder on the higher settings at certain throttle positions. My truck is definatley quieter after advancing the tone-ring with or without the quad box on. EGT may be down 50 degrees in the 130 hp mode. The truck does seem to cranks a little longer but it could just be my imagination.
I may try to advance the tone-ring a little (2degrees) further and see what happens
Could this whole timing issue be the reason that some people complain of drone, poor fuel mileage, or engine knocking and other trucks seem to have none of these issues?
