iPod integration into their '06 Nav system w/VES? + other Nav/VES mods?

- Mods, please move if this is the wrong forum

I have a 2006 Mega Cab 3500 w/ the Nav and VES. Thus far I have been unable to find anything that will allow me to plug my iPod into the system.

EDIT - I just saw this in the banner ads on this site http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=chyp - anyone used this or know if it works in this application? I emailed them to inquire and will report back...

Unacceptable solutions would be any of the standard wireless radio transmitters (too many 'minor" stations in the area for it to work well). What I am shooting for is to be able to plug my charging/audio cable into the bottom of the iPod and play music through it.

So far the only remotely viable solution has been to put a toggle in and choose between the CD changer or the iPod. The fact that it has VES also eliminates the option of runing it in through that input.

Suggestions? Solutions?

Other questions...

Has anyone found a 'hack' to enable all Nav funtions while the vehicle is in motion?

I am also looking for a method where the DVD in the back will also play on the screen in the front.

- yes, yes, yes I know that these mods would endanger all around me, escalate tensions in the Middle East, bring the plague to the US, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah...

Thanks in advance.

Here is what I got back from them...

Michael

After talking with my rep on Thursday they may never come out with the
ability to control the IPOD from the radio. Charge and get the audio into
the radio might become to only thing the CHYP will be able to do.
We can do that now using the AAI-CHY
http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=aai-chy and a PXP-01

So it sounds like if I wait for the CHYP, then it may give me everything I
am looking for? Any idea on when it will be out?

Michael

i doubt you have this ability...but i used an old cassette adapter, plugged that into the MP3 player,

put MP3 on Random,
dropped it in the ashtray, and shoved the adapter in the tape deck.

~12 hours of music, no worries.

I would think the NAV inter lock is via the E-brake,
and your answer is in here:
http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/index.html

the problem is if it is a discrete signal (you could just ground it or hook +12v to it), or derived from the ECM/PCM (meaning you would have the BRAKE lite flashing the whole time)

No cassette so no dice there... Looking for a more integrated solution anyways...

As to the parking brake solution I doubt this will work either as the shut off of the Nav features is speed related. Over 5 mph IIRC and they shut down...

Thanks for the thoughts though...

If you look at the Dodge website, in the new Nitro they have a new nav system called MyGig. It appears to be much more advanced than the system currentely available.

Thanks for the direction... Nice that they have the plug on the face of the unit, eh?

I am not a big fan of the tough screen for my app however because my screen would be scratched up from the layer of dust that usually accumulates between washings in my environment here.

I may go with the solution I have above and see how it works...

Threw out the brochure I had but when I was in the dealership getting an 06 there was a handout that showed a Mopar part that mounts in your glovebox & integrates with the Nav system.

Did a quick search & found this: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006...8chrysler.html

Couldn't find anything on Mopar.com either but from what I recall from the brochure it basically mounts your Ipod (looked like they had a few different styles in there) in your glovebox then it's controllable via radio or steering wheel with song display etc on nav screen. Curious now because while I didn't get Nav it looked like it should be able to work with 6 disc/mp3 stereo as well.

Here's a link but lists the 06 ram as 'in development': http://www.wyckoffchryslerparts.com/moipinkit.html
