Mopar IPOD integration kit

Can anyone tell me if the Ipod integration kit for the stock head unit will be compatible with my truck? I have an 04.5 and the two kits that are available are for 06-07 models. One of the kits gives you an adapter for the back of the radio then hooks to the Ipod and you control your music play with the Ipod.
The other kit which cost a little more, connects to the back of the radio and allows you to control the music play from the stereo face. My factory head unit does have an external media button so can anyone tell me if this will work???
I believe kit 1 is around $130 and kit 2 is around $215

Instead of messing around with stock head unit, why not just buy an Alpine or similar IPOD ready stereo. They are fairly cheap.

I have an Alpine 9856 that was $200 installed at Car Toys. I think the prices are even cheaper now. No need to upgrade speakers or add an amp. Hooks right up to the IPOD and controls it.

All of those things will work, in fact I have an fm transmitter that plugs into my 12V power supply and I hate it because I am always looking for a channel with "static" and thats really hard here in so cal!!! If the channel is not being broadcasted on here It will be broadcasted from Mexico ( no regulations on high signal output). I have a very similar Alpine head unit with IPOD connector and love it but really wanted to leave the stock unit in the truck.

You can put a switch in-line with your antennae that basically cuts off your antennae, that way any FM channel will become static and you can use that for your Ipod. I dont know what they're called, but I had one put in my truck as I kept getting crappy sound with my Ipod and Sirius that were connected that way.

It's just a toggle mounted under the dash that I flip when I listen to satellite or the IPOD (which is 99% of the time anyway).
