Injector Problems Again... I think

I just replaced the injectors in my truck last week with some f1 brand new injectors with the flux 2 nozzles. I have put about 1000 miles on them so far and they were awesome. Yesterday morning I came out to get in the truck and when i started it up there was kind of a hard start and then a few puffs of white smoke. It only did this the first time that I started it up. I thought I would wait another day to see if it did it again and this morning when i started it up it did the same thing. Does anybody know what the cause of this is. My truck has a quad x2 on it which is turned all the way down, a 5 inch straight pipe, a whillies whistler, and a soon to be installed airdog 150. Do you think my injectors crapped out on me or do you think its something else this time. Thanks for all the help.

John

I'm not putting down Quad products, so don't take my comments that way.

I had a Quad Std unit on my truck and my truck did not seem to do well with it. I know the 2006's were either a go or no go for many different programmers . .

In any event, my truck did the white smoke stuff, the long crank stuff, EVERY time I'd start up with the Quad on it. I took it off and no white smoke no long crank.

I took my truck to Dodge and had it flashed for the long crank, white smoke, I actually had them do a total re-flash to bring everything up to the latest of whatever. When I hooked up the Quad again, all those problems were back again. I took the Quad Std off. It could have been summer vrs winter fuel, I did not have the white smoke until the winter fuel. I just decided my truck was not compatible with the Quad, or at least not during the winter. So, I sold it. The fellow who bought it never had any issues that I know of with it.

Now I have the Smarty Jr, I do not have any of those problems. I have my stock injectors, at 50K on the odometer, all runs good on both winter and summer fuel.

My truck does a similar thing after flux 2 install. Runs rough on first start, runs fine after a minute of driving. I have no white smoke though. 5k miles on mine. I checked my connector tubes and valve lash again. Can't figure it out.

1) It could have some rust in it from your original problem. Sometimes if the rail, lines and connector tubes are not de-rusted this can happen. When the system has anything in it, it always ends up downstream in the injectors. Even the CP3 can have rust in it and throw trash out when you get it back running again.

2) Compression is OK right? I thought you mentioned something about the dealer OK'd the mechanical parts of the engine?

Does it run OK other than cold starts? How much white smoke are we talking about?

Hey guys thanks for the comments. I will have to test it out and see if I take the quad out if it does anything. Don, the dealer did a compression check and said that everything checked out just fine there. I replaced all the connector tubes and everything while it was at the dealer getting replaced. When I first got it back I could really tell a difference in the idle and got many comments from people on how much better the truck sounded engine wise with the new injectors. Then just a few days ago it started the white smoke. Its only a few puffs for about 10-15 seconds when first started up after sitting for a while. Today it didnt have the rough start as bad as yesterday. I dunno what is wrong with it. I just hope the injectors are jacked up after the money I spent on them. THanks for the help again guys

Don, if there is rust in there do you think that the dealer will cover that since they installed them. I know that they do not offer a warranty on the injectors themselves, just on there work. That should classify as the work they have done huh? I will unplug the quad today and see if that helps. If not I iwll most likely be calling the dealer tom.

Did your truck go to the dealer for rust or water in the tank?

If so, what usually happens is the dealer replaces a ton of stuff. CP3, all injectors, rail, lines, tubes, etc, etc. They almost always drop and clean the tank out too. If all they did was replace injectors and tubes, you may have gotten crap in the injectors from the pump, the lines, the tank, etc. I dont know the extent of their repair. Can you tell me? Oftentimes the insurance company has to get involved because the cost is over 10 grand.

It went to the dealer because I heard a wierd noise and it was running kind of funny. When they tore it down they said that there was rust on the injectors and that they needed to be replaced. They also suggested that I replace the connector tubes as well so that it eliminates the chance of rust ruining the new injectors. So I did that as well. As far as dropping the tank and cleaning out the Cp3 etc, as far as I know they did not do any of that and didnt mention anything to me about it. If this is the case is this on them or on me for not bringing it up? Do you have any idea? THanks

Well I disconnected the quad last night. Started it up and it still white smoked. I started it up this afternoon and it smoked even worse than I have ever seen it before. Its making the same noise that it was before the new injectors and has a really crappy start. Im calling the dodge dealer and I have a feeling that its going to be a big battle. I cant afford to fork out the money for another set of injectors so if i dont win the battle unfortunately the truck will be traded in on something else. I hate to do it but I just through alot down the drain and I only got two weeks out of it. The injectors were awesome though until this happened.

I spoke to Bill @ source about this. He told me the injectors were brand new from Bosch and have my nozzles.

This is strange. I wonder if the injectors are not the problem and you have another issue. Even a simple thing like valve lash could cause this issue. If it ran good for a few weeks and now is bad, I would not give up on the truck yet.

I'm curious to see how this pans out. I'm having the exact same issues that you are having. The idle was choppy and white smoke, with a louder than normal idle.

Hey Don. Thanks for looking into this for me. What is valve lash and would that be caused from something that the dealer did while taking the truck apart. I hope so that they cover it because I am flat out broke. I dont want to give up on the truck but I just do not have the money to through at it right now. But thanks again for all the wisdom.
