High EGTs vs. High Boost

Which will hurt engine life more, high EGTs(1400-1900 degrees) or High Boost Pressure(60-80psi)? With a single turbo I was hitting 40psi(wastegated) and over 1800 degrees @ WOT and with the twins I can hit 80psi(usually try to keep it under 65psi) but EGTs don't get over 1400 degrees. Just curious if these engines will last longer seeing higher EGTs or higher boost. Also, is there anyway to tell if a headgasket has been partially blown?

I personally would much rather see high boost levels than high EGT's. Higher EGT's equal higher piston and valve temps. Although I wouldn't want more than 80psi on a stock engine. On the headgasket issue, check you coolant for oil, and your oil for coolant, if nothing there then it might be blown between the cylinders.

65psi , Your engine is on borrowed time Partially blown headgasket;
Coolant in engine oil?
Oil in coolant?
External oil or coolant leak?
If you are gonna run higher boost you need the head o-ringed and you need studs
What did Pier's say was good boost to run?

I haven't noticed any oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. I've got the ARP studs and just trying that for now to see how it works out. The only oil leak I've had was from the oil line going to the bottom turbo.

What makes you think you have a blown head gasket? If it is just a compression leak you will have either excessive blowby, or excessive coolant pressures (blown hoses etc) and a definite weak cylinder. You would be able to feel it miss completely or just not making power. I wouldn't worry about the o-ringing until you start having head gasket problems. Some will hold, some won't. It all depends on the machining variances of your particular engine.

I'm just trying to be cautious right now. I was told the head could be partially blown and not know it. I've been playing with higher boost than I usually run and just want to know what to expect if it happens. I know the obvious would be excessive water temps.

Don't your tires rub like crazy with just a leveling kit. I've got the same tires and I had to get the 5" kit to clear them...

Mine only rub when turning sharp onto an incline. Other than that they just fill up the wheel wells good with a 2" leveling kit.

I live in Lexington also, just out of curiosity who is it that you have talked to regarding your truck and your possible blown head gasket?? I am considering twins in the future after I get a better transmission. Since you have already been down that road, I'm open to any advice you can give me.

I haven't talked to anyone really about the head gasket being blown. Just asking if anyone knows the limits of the stock head gasket with studs. I can just about answer any questions you have and I can show you my set-up. As far as the trans goes you can see what I chose from my sig and I'm happy with it. I had a different trans in my 01' Dodge and I like my current one much better. Just let me know if you want to see my set-up. I'm on Sherard Cir off of Tates Creek.
