HIDs, should i get them?

They look awesome, and some decent prices on ebay. I know its been discussed before, but I need an up to date analysis. What should I look for, what rating (6000k?, 9, 20!?) Thanks in advance!

6k keeps the ricer factor down and the eye of the LE away. I use them in my fogs. No issues yet only ++++++'s.

HID are cool but a few of my buddies have them and i dont think they are worth it. The only thing that changed was the color and people give them the finger all the time, kinda funny though.

I love mine. I have had 8k's for about 2 years now. When adjusted right they have a decent cutoff so everybody won't blink at you.

I'll wiegh in for the Dont Get them. Unless you upgrade the whole power system for the lights, you might have some issues (there have been threads on this here - better experts than me on them). Imitations are just that....

If I'm running LED tails, third brake, and cabbies, would that help with the power system?

So most of ya'll are liking the 8K?

I think he's talking about running them off of the stock plugs. The wiring is not nearly heavy enough for the HID's. If you do buy a kit make sure that you buy one with the relays for power. The relay gets it's signal off of one of the stock plugs. When you turn the lights on it senses that and draws power directly from the battery. That way your electrical is safe all the way from the switch to the plug.

Don't ask me how I know about this "relay". I installed mine for the first time and when I turned them on all the wiring back to the switch, the switch itself, and some kind of "front control module" (or something like that) was instantly fried/burnt. Had it all replaced under warranty and then went with a relay based system. All was fine after that.

Honestly, I prefer my stock halogens over the HID's. The HID's did look good and the lighting was better than the halogens but all of the stray light and people flashing me got on my nerves. I also got pulled over for them because I was "bright-lighting" everyone. You probably won't have as many problems with other people and cops because your truck is a 2wd and it sits much lower than mine. Let us know if you get some and how you like them!!

I have 6k's in the headlamps and the fogs I love'em. Makes the rest of the world look dull at night. (surrounding lights, building lights).

Would the ebay kits be some with the relays, or where should I look fo some? I run some PIAA Xtreme White bulbs and they are fine, but wouldn't mind a little more clarity at night...

Yep some of the ebay kits have relays. Just look for some that say they come with a relay harness. Be careful buying the ebay kits that cost around $100. I bought one that was about $150 (I think) and the "k" output color was not the same. One was deep blue and the other was almost white. That's how they can sell them so cheap; the bulbs are sort of rejects. They do work though. A few of the better kits are Xetronics, Philips, and McCulloch. 8000k has a deeper blue, 6000k is white with some blue tint, and 4300k is what the factory HID's are most of the time. It's just a really bright white. If you can't find a kit with the harness just get one without it and buy a harness. It's the same thing. Here is a link to one of the relay harnesses.......

two problems, none of the 03 up are wired the same but you will have problems on all of them if you try to use existing wiring or relay hooked to existing wiring use a separate switch with or with out a relay and connect to the battery through a fuse. the second is the kits are not legal and can not be made to work properly and they are starting to ticket drivers more often . you have to change the lens to a projector lens, i had about 80 hours in on making it work . made lots of mistakes and wasted a lot of money. there is a hid forum go there and research and buy the complete kit including projectors and it will defiantly make you nervous whacking up your lens with a dremel
