Timing will help it run cooler egts. Most people don't run the even numbers unless they are using some other way to advance the timing. Sorry i don't have much more info than that, maybe some else will chime in.

Yep. Cooler EGTs and more HP with additional timing. Running level 9 you would probably kept up with him.

It sounds to me like you have a very old Smarty version, pre top speed limiter. If you want less smoke upgrade to a newer version, maybe not the newest Revo, because depending on your year model you might not be able to go back. Also, before you update it, record your version(the 1st thing that appears when you power up your smarty) this way you can know what you had and it will be possible to go back. You really do want to update it for less smoke and speed limiter adjustment, we just need to figure out what tune you'll want.

I now see you have an 06, you might just want to update to a 4.11 tune, because once you go to the Revo stuff you won't be able to return I believe, correct me if I'm wrong guys, I'm not real sure on 06s.

I think i would have blown by him with #9 (170 hp with timing) and a new speed limiter. I had it only on #2 (60 hp without timing). And he was barely pullin from me. When we got to the next group of cars my hood was next to his back seat.

Do you go to Weatherford college? If so, you pass my house everyday. I'm right off the hwy in willow park. I can help you figure it out if you need me to. But it sounds like you need a newer tune to me

Ya I'd leave that Smarty turned up man! I've had mine turned up for a long time and no problems yet. I would think that the odd tunes with timing would have less smoke? I thought you were saying otherwise, but might have read your post wrong. These guys on here are all right, update your Smarty to a different tune and you will be much happier with it. Not sure what version your running now, but I run the 4.2 like TCR told me to run. He runs a TNT R now I believe, but if your gonna turn it up you need gauges my friend. You don't want to get your EGTS up too high, and without having some sort of basis of how hot your truck runs, its not a good idea to do so. Seems like every truck is a little different on how hot they run given the certain programming your running.

Anyway, if the speed limiter ever cuts you off again and you don't have the speed limiter off on your Smarty, just turn the key to start. Don't know if that works on the 06, but on my 04 555 if you turn the key the instrument cluster goes dead and BOOM....speed limiter off! Sounds risky I know, but I finally got the guts to try it one day going down the highway at 70mph and it worked as described by some of the other members on this site. Obviously not the best way to do it, but it doesnt hurt anything like you think it would.

BTW, you'll have to hold the key in the starting position the entire time your wanting your speed limiter to be shut off.
