Free flow Muffler

Hi

I need some help deciding on a quiet free flow muffler. I have a 2004.5 "600" Dodge 4X4 with 4" exhaust. I will be adding a chip, air box and gauges. I also want to change the exhaust, but leave
the cat in place. I was finally able to convince my significant other to get a diesel because she said "they make very little noice now compared to a couple of years ago"

What muffler can I use that will keep me close to a stock noise level? Is this even possible. I will be getting an Edge chip, AFE proquard seven and the Gauges.

Paul

Donaldson makes two mufflers that would fit your needs...
Search the forum.

Also check out 4" magnaflow mufflers, 90-110 bucks and a true 4" id all the way through. Not real loud either.

pfieber,
A couple of real popular mufflers are the Donaldson M090544 or the Nelson 86131M. I am going with the Nelson because I can get it at my local Cummins dealer. I tried to get the Donaldson from Carquest, but they just started distribution for Donaldson and they haven't got their act together yet. I wish the Nelson had flow characteristics posted like the Donaldson does but I am sure they are similar. I got this info from the respective web sites. Here are some specs.

I put the 86131M Nelson on the Ghost Rider and I really like it. Quiet, but nice sound on the outside.

Got it at Cummins Northwest for $66.00.

Yep...the votes have it, if you want to keep it quite, but flow1600cfm vs 350cfm on the stock muffler, the Donaldson M090544 or the Nelson 86131M are the way to go. You can get the Nelson at your nearest Cummins or Fleetguard dealer.

The Magnaflow mufflers tend to result in pretty bad drone on some trucks between 2000 and 2200 rpm.

Try a search in "Nelson 86131M 51" muffler" There is a lot of information out there!

MonkeyLips,
I have already decided to use the Nelson muffler, but I see you have posted a flow rate for it. How did you get this information? I couldn't find it on the Fleetguard site.

I searched for Donaldson and read allmost all of the results. I also looked at the Donaldson site and found a 090781 listed. It has the following specs:
4" in and out, centered
length 51", round, unpainted
Atten 15-20dba
Flow 1524 LR
2155 MR
2639 HR

note, similar to 090578, painted

Has here tried it or know anything about it?

Thanks
