Yeah that's what I was talking about in the other posts. I bored holes in the caps and the the Warns stick out exactly 2" past the hole in the hubcap. New Dynaloc lockers that replace the Warns only stick out 1" past it, make sense now? I've got some pics I'll upload so you can see the difference between the two. I always hated how they stuck out so far. I'm definitely planning on an upgrade.

Man I know but what isn't with these trucks? No worse than smartys, twins, or anything else we all do and really does improve the truck. Ok here's the pics (more in my gallery you get the idea)...

Warns 2" out

Dynalocs 1" out

Dynalocs - now tell me that sticks out too far... almost looks factory...

I used the EMS kit. If you are going to spend the money on one of these kits, get one that has a lot of the work done for you. For example, I believe that Dynatrac and Solid Axle both install the bearing races for you. Solid Axle also puts in the wheel studs. These are big for me because I had to go get them both pressed in at a shop. The races are way to big to install like you would other smaller bearings. The wheel studs in the EMS kit had to be pressed in by a 20 ton press! I also had to grind down the stub shafts considerably to get them through the steering knuckle. They may have changed some of this since I put mine in (December 2007), but if I had to do it again, I would go with one that is more "plug and play".
DiEseLjunKy, the hub sticking out doesn't bother me that much. I kind of like the look of the hub sticking out like it did in the 60s and 70s...

I have the ems hub kit and like it. I too had to do a little work to get them on. But I ended up seeing about .5 to 1 mpg increase. Not alot but the piece of mind is worth it.

I can't see doing this for increase fuel mileage. At $1800+, and roughly .5 - 2mpg increase, it would take a long time to break even.
However, I am not a big fan of automatic hubs or permanently locked hubs. I see no need to have the front shaft and axles spinning all the time. Besides, before I go off road, I like to get out, check the truck over, lock the hubs and go.... You can't put a price on peace of mind

i picked up 1.5 mpg with the dyna trac kit. i plan on keeping my truck for a while. so, after checking the price of the the hub assembly-240.00 bucks each, plus shipping- i decided to go with the locking hubs/ less maintenance! if i have to replace a wheel bearing now, it will cost me 20.00 -tops!!

About $300 less than DT. You hear guys that want the hubs but complain about how they stick out so far. Well this is the fix. If you're running 35's or 37's with some offset I don't think those dynalocs are gonna stick out past your tires and give any problems there.

It seems like it would, but for those of us planning on keeping our trucks for the long haul, it does make economic sense. With diesel pushing $3.50 + per gallon, if a manual hub conversion kit bumps you from 16 - 18 mpg, payback is less than 70,000 miles based on fuel savings alone (without considering hardparts savings...unitized hub assemblies, etc).

As the price of fuel continues to go up, it will become much easier to justify. Additionally, if you wait until your stock hub bearings are close to needing replaced, you can subtract that cost from the price of the kit as well, and payback will begin much sooner.

Actually, with fuel prices climbing, I'm being forced to reconsider alot of things such as this. Diesel has jumped $0.20/gallon here in Knoxville in the last 3 days. Needless to say, the truck's starting to do alot of sitting .

I've got the kit but I haven't installed it yet. A quick measure says that with H2 wheels and 285s the hubs will be about even with the tires and not stick out past them. The tires are out 2" more than stock.

I wonder how long those unitized hubs will last? I also wonder if Dodge would void the warranty on them for oversized tires?

Those kind of potential costs also factor into a decision on the new hubs.

Unless you're running 35 spline outers you can just use Superwinch hubs for a Dana 60 front. They stick out the same as the uber high zoot ones from Dynatrac.

Andy

EDIT: This is a pic I pirated from Pirate4x4.com. I have the same hubs on my own Dana 60...
