Dynatrac/Warn Free Spin Hubs Installed Finally!

Finally got the Dynatracs put on, even after the company I bought the kit from forgot to include enough shims with the kit. Had to have shims overnight shipped straight from Dynatrac. Also had to replace the track bar, which was also overnighted from Carli in CA. And of course, had new rubber put on all four corners. The hubs barley stick out from my Ballistic Hostel Wheels. Was a little worried that they would stick out too far, but I have no problem with what little they do stick out.

Yes, keep us updated on what changes you notice.

My wheel bearings are starting to make odd noises. I'm thinking I might go to these.

Whats the rough price? $1200 or so?

Cheers

Paid around $1900 for the kit, you can probably find it for a little less if you shop around, but I needed it done right away, since I only had a small time frame to get the job done with as little down time as possible. My truck is a daily driver, and it was tough enough trying to get by for the few days extra that it was down, since I had other things done to the truck, and some parts had to be ordered. The truck has almost a full tank of fuel now, so next time I fill up, I'll start hand calculations, and keep some records for the mostly city driving I do. I'll let you all know what kind of mileage I get. All I can say for now is that my steering is a lot better, but that's because of the steering upgrades that were done. I really think that if I'd done this 50,000 miles ago, it would have paid for itself in the long run.

Fuel economy should me marginally better. The payoff is lighter steering,no more u-joint wear and the front diff fluid will last forever.

Also the ability to back up in 4 low with out the hump hump when you are turning . I have a standard 6 speed and it is sure easy on the clutch now.

Yeah,my friend's has some of the first Dynalocs issued and has had great luck. His truck weighs 10,800# w/camper and has survived numerous Baja runs. No issues.

Looks great Chris. Make sure you lock 'em soon as you get off the paved access road at the beach. I'm going to be pretty embarrassed for you if you get stuck

Sorry guys, I still haven't had to top off the truck yet! Can't give you any mileage numbers yet. But something tells me it has to be better, because I would have usually filled up by now, in my normal routine, but I still have half a tank. I'll go top it off to the filler neck tomorrow, and then top it off again after the weekend, and get some real hand calculated numbers. I did lock in the hubs the other day when the wife and I did some 4 wheeling at the beach. Everything worked out great!

Have some mileage results in. This is all hand calculated, actual numbers, and fuel topped all the way up to just about overflowing the filler tube rim. This particular tank was all city driving, stop and go, mostly 35-45 mph, and I don't have a light foot. The highest speed was about 75 mph for just about 5-10% of this tank. I'm getting 13 mpg on this tank, which may not sound good to most of you, but I was getting just a little over 11 mpg before the Dynatracs, with exactly the same kind of driving. I really want to take the truck on a long freeway trip to see what I get now. Freeway before the Dynatracs was 17.5 mpg at 71-72 mph. When I put in a long trip on the freeway, I'll measure that mileage and let you know. The absolute best freeway mileage I ever had was when the truck was still stock, but well broken in. I used to get almost 21.5 mpg on the same 600 mile trip I used to make all the time when I worked offshore. I'd fill up here at home, drive just a little over 600 miles one way to get to my destination, drive around the city a little, and hand calculated to 21.5 mpg, but that was doing the speed limit on cruise control the whole way. My big drop in mileage comes from my tires and the suspension I have in my sig. I guess if you wanna play, you gotta play! But anyway, around town I'm seeing about a 2 mpg gain. I'm happy with that, and the fact of the wear and tear thing isn't so bad anymore.

Thumbs up

Thats not bad at all. 2 mpg is a really good gain. I would have never thought that from spinning a driveshaft it would soak up that much fuel. I just went to a Smarty from a previous vendors chip and am seeing 2.4 mpg increase which takes me to 15.6 mpg. I have to wonder if there is any more gains I can squeeze out of a big truck like ours with a lift and bigger tires/wheels? The payoff even if I managed 1.5 mpg is lengthy. If my calculations are correct it'd be approx 30780 miles or 49278kms to equal $1800 in fuel savings.

I appreciate the dilligence and forwarding us the goods on your mileage. It's really making me reconsider one of these kits regardless of price. I've got so much cash into my rig now that it's become a "forever truck" in my stable.

Thanks Chris!
