Talking Drone all but gone!!!

I installed a 5"x18" exhaust tip this weekend. Got it from Rip. My truck was droning something ridiculous to the point that I was about to go shopping for a new muffler. I had heard that if you stick the exhaust tip out far enough from under the bed it will eliminate the drone. So I installed it to where it sticks out about 2-3" past the edge of the bed. I can barely see it sticking past the tire in the passenger rear view mirror. This was the ticket. The drone is gone to the point that I don't even notice it except on going up fairly steep grades at about 65-70 or so. Even then it's not bad. Just got back last night from a 300 mile trip and completely forgot about my previous woes. You can still barely hear it, but it's actually kind of pleasant now. This is my recommendation if anyone else is having drone issues.

I have been looking into an exhaust tip as well. Can you post a link to a picture of what yours looked like? Was it a weld install? I am not a big fan of bolt on....

A resonated tip may help even more. I saw some the other day. I think they were only about $50.00.

Funny. I installed a tip on my exhaust and the opposite happened. I guess every truck is different.

Exactly, what I did when installing my system. (See gallery) I believe you may have heard that from me, as I posted on this topic. Welded mine on to keep it mine.

It's here toward the bottom of the page. It's the 5X18" with the rolled edge. I used the band clamp that's right underneath it on the page. I don't have access to a welder so I went for it. I'm kinda not into it and will most likely get it welded on as well down the road. Right now I'm more concerned with getting the truck leveled and shod with my new H2 rims, new tires, and new bilsteins (if they would ever get here).
