Originally installed a 5" SS turbo back Silverline exhaust system. At 2200 rpm's the drone was unbearable, couldn't hear radio unless it was cranked way up, couldn't carry on a conversation. Something had to change. The Silverline SS muffler is straight through, so not much muffling going on. Changed it out to a Donaldson M100465, less drone but still noticeable. Changed it out again to a Donaldson M100580. Success, less noise & much less drone. Sorry, no gauges to compare EGT's.

 

Good deal. I hate the drone from my Banks. I have a Donaldson (I don't remember the model number, but it's a 4" by 4'). I'll be adding that to my Banks muffler and hopefully reduce the drone.

 

I had a wicked drone from my banks muffler on my 05. I have the earlier G56 that kicks the revs up quite a bit in 6th gear. The drone drove me nuts, especially when towing.

I had a resonator (FTE diesel?) welded in. As part of the installation, the muffler guy moved the whole exhaust higher to get clearance for the new resonator. I'm not sure if it was moving the exhaust up (might have had contact when the exhaust touched the cross-member but no visual evidence of such) or the resonator, but I now have no drone.

Now I don't care that 70 mph puts me around 2150 rpm, cause it purrs along like a kitten :-)
