Like XLR said, drive pressure can tell you where to set certain parameters like your wastegate, for max efficiency...

right more of a gauge for setup than a safety issue. All the same I think I will look into it. Since I'm gonna need some analog gauges anyway with the fuel issue on the commander.

I used my drive pressure gauge to "tune" my exhaust brake to the maximum recommended 62 psi backpressure.

Plus, it's just something else cool to look at, helps you practice mental math skills on the fly as you're trying to calculate drive pressure to boost ratios, lets you "see" exhaust braking performance, etc.

Maybe there is something to the filter thing though...mine worked great for about 2 months

Our TIP Kits have soot filters that are designed to be backflushed as needed.... should be cleaned at least once per year.

Hey Mike!

Would you care to recommend the type of filter used for those of us who already have the gauge in place? It looks like from the pic on your website that it's a Swagelok/Parker/etc inline gas filter...If so, what micron filter works?

It's obvious a filter is needed, as my gauge stopped working, but I'm not sure I follow the logic behind needing one. There is presumabley no "flow" through the line connected to the gauge, but rather the gas in the line just compresses and expands to relate indicated pressure on the gauge. In fact, it would seem, that, since the line contains clean, ambient air when installed, that the slug of gas acting on the gauge would be free from particulate matter even without a filter...

I'm in no way second guessing you, but I'm just trying to make things make sense in my head!

Thanks Mike! Eric

I'm not sure which gas filter you're looking at, but it sounds like it would work. Ours are machined into the compression fitting & it's been a long time since I spec'd the micron rating for it.

Did your homemade drive pressure gauge read smoothly while it was still working?

BTW - although the capillary doesn't exhibit any flow in a throughput sense, there are convective currents present such as found within a heat pipe.

Yes, when it was working, it worked well. It was smooth, and had very quick response.

I tapped into the exhaust manifold, used a stainless swagelok male connector fitting, and ran 1/8" 316 SS line to the cab/firewall. From there, I used parker nylon tubing up to the 0 - 100 psi DiPricol Optix boost gauge.

I guess I need to order a new gauge, and install an inline filter...
