Yeah I believe it. Problem with the 06-07 is that I read they decreased the HP in them by 15. But the STs are faster because the 20's are heavy heavy!

I went over to an old board and tried to find a couple old trucks I remember off there that were pretty quick. But can't find them anymore .

If we were close and I still had my old truck I would race you, would be a good race I'd imagine.

Heck if you were in Houston I'd call the guy that bought it and see if I could borrow it .

I had a 2004 QC Hemi 2 wheel drive. I had the 5.7 but had placed the 6.1 cam in it. Added Pacesetter full tube headers, magnaflow exhaust. Superchips programmer, O2 simulators, 6.1L injectors, Cold air intake, 4.11 gears and she would RUN!!!!!!!

That's fair if you want to get technical about it...but then you and those barking about $700 vs $700, let's not forget the $5k or so extra we pay for the Cummins engine.

Don't miss my point guys - I love my cummins and would never buy a hemi - the point is just that so many ppl here go on about how they spank hemis all the time..well big deal if you spank a hemi in a cummins with twin turbos and all the other toys..you've spent 15k more right there..

Ok, let's get technical then. What kind of mileage, driveability, reliability, and towing capacity do you think a Hemi with 15k in mods is going to have?

Jrussel, I'm glad you're having a laugh and I can tell you're one of those last word fanatics and I could really care less, so this is the last Ill say...but in keeping with apples to apples, nobody was talking about towing, mileage, or any of the other things you listed..it was about straight line (legal of course) racing..

If you re-read this thread nobody was talking about the sales price of these trucks either. You were the one who wanted to include those technicalities, so I decided to include a few others as well.

I guess I must have a slow poke ('03 Quad Dually w/Cummins HO, K&N air filter, Edge Attitude chip, 4" pipes). It only turns 88 mph in 16 secs. in a 1/4. But it will also get 18 to 20 miles per gallon depending on my foot when empty and last year a 11,452 mile trip towing a 14,000 lb. high nose Fifth wheel it averaged 10.85 mpg. I had my foot in it most of the time (70 to 80). I know it may not out run a Hemi but I believe I could give him a good run and I know I could drag the Hemi down the road with the Hemi loaded.

Lets all remember that the Hemi is a good engine. The one made today isn't a 426 dual quad monster, but it makes a good package. I wouldn't want a truck with the Hemi, but if someone wanted to give me a Charger SRT 8 it wouldn't make me mad! The first Hemi was made in 1954 (I think) and it made huge changes in the racing world. There probably another engine that one more races then it has. Cummins is by far one of the best diesels out there. The straight in line set up has proven itself in several different configuations. When all I had my truck was the Banks big hoss, I went neck to neck with a hemi extended cab 2x4 1500 and we were pretty much even. Just my .02!!

Well after reading all the posts above I guess I am the only one that cringes at handing over a $100 to fill my truck up. I know this is a diesel forum. But if you just have the truck for leisure and not really towing or work. Is the Diesel worth it anymore for the added fuel mileage gain? A 1500 Hem truck is 28k and 3500 CTD truck is 38k. So if you financed loan thats about $200 a month in payments more for the CTD. Fuel mileage seems like its going to be the same. But unleaded is so much cheaper. So I dont see value there. I understand the CTD will hold value better. But with price of fuel all large pick ups are going to take a hit in resale. Plus the length of Warranty has to go to the 1500 Hemi. So if we dont get snow this winter I may go and buy a left over 08 in summer. Any thoughts on why I should not think this way? Please I really dont care if a CTD is faster than me on highway or strip. If one blows smoke at me someday I will just try to figure out how much all that unburned fuel just cost him.

Sounds like you bought the wrong truck! A lot of us actually need a truck larger than a 1500 though.

before my trans work, i killed the 3 hemi's that raced me.....this is just with the smarty on level 3 (once was with beta 4.4)...not even close so in my experience they're not very fast.....but i dont know what model year they were...but they werent even 4x4's so there had to be a huge weight diff....but in the end, who cares what's faster, it's all what someone wants their truck for....i dont really tow or need a 2500, but it's fun and diesel wasnt 3.xx when i boght either my 05 or 06....have fun...hopefully i'll find a hemi on the way to work! :-)

I have been keeping a spreadsheet since installing the SMARTY over a year ago. So far the average is 17.95mpg with the SMARTY set to level 5. That's everything, city, highway, towing.
So for me the diesel is a better choice.
