When I brought my truck the diesel option was like 5200 bucks, that will buy a boat load of gas. Even more now that diesel is so high. Everybody talking that the Hemi needs more than a 700 dollar programer to beat the all mighty cummins... you forgot that you paid over 4 grand more for the diesel so I think dollar for dollar the Hemi is a faster truck.

This thread took a strange turn. From the first poster simply saying he is suprised his CTD is as fast as his new HEMI, to now all the Hemi apologists coming out saying what a great deal the HEMI is and the CTD is a real waste of money, and it is slow on top of that. Ok, maybe not that bad, but still, this is bizarre for a diesel website.

Glad we could all help you buddy! Yes, I do remember all those bent valves and I also remember seeing that Chrysler 300 SRT-8 "window" his block, and blow the whole engine apart at CPD this past spring! The sad thing is, that car did not have that much done to it really and the bottom-end let go. Yeah, it ran a 12.90 but it didn't stay together.

Diesel websites, Some times when people put things so high up on a pedastool they need to be brought back down a little.

The only time anyone needs a diesel truck is for hauling or towing period, if a gas or diesel will make the same MPG nontowing.

I only tow about 3,000 miles a year out of approx. 15,000 so I could probably get by with a hemi. I just can not stand the crappy towing with a gas pickup so I will stay with a diesel. That and my truck is paid off so I wouldn't gain a whole lot selling it straight out and buying back a new hemi. Although a few thousand in my pocket, lower fuel price, and the aspect of a lifetime warranty does make me think about going to a hemi.

Some of us have Diesel Fever and the rest don't...

I've been a gas Racer-X type from my youth (been married to my GTO for over 25 years now), but my mistress is the Cummins... efficient, loads of grunt, stout design, plenty quick - you can beat her like a rented mule and still bring home the bacon too!

I drove gas until

(a. Dodge started putting the Cummins in it's trucks and (b. I could afford one. After (b) I have not even considered the gasser because (a) has met all my needs.

You know it's funny how this all works out.Seems like no matter what you have at the time,it's the best.

I had a 06 SRT 8 and was on the Charger board for a short time, got tired of having so many electrical problems I got rid of the Charger and got a 06 MegaCab,needed a tow truck for my little 408 SBD race truck anyway so that all worked out for me.

Here's the rub, when I said my see ya later's to that board everyone piled on me for getting a stinky ole smokey oil burner.I explained that I needed a tow truck for all my dirt bikes and ATVs and that I was dropping a Mopar crate motor into my old tow truck. That went over like a large rear exit gas bomb in Church.POd me a bit and challenged everyone one the board to a drag race at National Trails with my little small block and all they could come up with was "We should ban him from the board"

BTW who ever said we were talking about a modern day Hemi and not the old elephant,my truck was a 03 QC 4x4 ram with a few add ons from my old buddy at Hesco.NO diesel could out tow or out top end that thing.I could top a 6 mile upgrade at Jellico TN at speeds above and beyond and closest rig to me was a 06 chipped out Furd, and we all towed about the same weight.

That thread is still on the forum in the archive section on the Kentucky Krawlers site.I went by Outlaw on that board.Lawman was taken so I went the other route.

My standard cab Hemi got around 12-13 average. Our Cummins quad cab with 4.11 gears get an average of 18. I like the Cummins and bought it to haul two dogs (we needed the quad cab). As long as I can afford a Cummins I'm not going back to gas. And it only took a Bullydog to make it as fast in the quarter.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck, and the Cummins, I think that it is a heck of a motor, but, maybe in 5-6 years, I'm going to be hunting a late 70's early 80's chevy 2wd 1/2 ton long bed to put a bowtie 572 in... Strictly a track truck. I used to race a little 1/4 mile, loved it.

Just what I like. Apples and oranges. Or, Navy and Marine Corps, if you like...
