I did that almost when I got the truck. He is correct the filter minder does not pull down anymore. I used a piece of big O tile with no elbow (didn't want to draw water in on the highway) Has been fine (knocking on wood) More turbo noise also.

That mod looks cool.
Just be careful about the paper element filters and any moisture, they don't like it and break down fast. A few BHAF's have broken down on 2nd gens. Only saw one stock paper filter with stock inlet break down so far on the 3rd gens.

Went down to Home Depot and bought the 4" drain pipe elbow for $4.47 (Just like the one in the photos). Spent about an hour to install the elbow. I did a friction fit so no RTV is required and I can adjust the elbow as needed. Right now it's pointed at the right hand corner of the headlight assembly. Also installed the new upgraded Mopar airfilter with the prefilter.
For the test flight: Noticeable improvement in the throttle response, takes a lot less throttle to get the beast rolling. Turbo spoolup feels quicker, maybe my imagination. Also now I can hear the turbo whine, before it was very muted. Sounds just about right.
I will keep an eye for water intrusion. The next airfilter will be the AFE Pro Guard 7.

I believe that you can get the same results by simply drilling 7/16" holes in each one of the little squares in the bottom of the box. I too experienced turbo noise and much quicker spool up. Both ways appear to be good to me.

A buddy of mine gave me a tip on preventing water intrusion. Just cover the intake hole with pantyhose. Said it works great on his racing quads.

I think thats an awfull easy place for water to enter the box! I plow snow and do some off roading as well, I have examined the intake portion of the box and it looks nicely sealed. It seams to draw enough fresh COLD,DRY air as well!

I did mine today. The filter minder was at 35%. I reset it and ran the truck down the highway WOT right up to 3100 rpm in each gear. No pull down on the filter minder at all. Turbo is slightly louder but not much.

I finally got around to doing this to my airbox.
I went to Lowes to get the black drain pipe it showed in the TDR thread but since it's winter they didn't have any.
I got a 4" 90 degree PCV elbow instead, there are 2 types of PVC pipe, thin & thick wall, the thin wall besides being thinner also had a tighter bend & was more compact.
I also got an adaptor & I had to buy a 8' piece of the 4" thinwall pipe but it was still under $20.
I used a 4" hole saw & then trimmed the hole till it was a tight slip fit, I put the adaptor on one end & cut a piece of the 4" pipe to attach the adaptor to the elbow.
I painted it flat black to match the rest of the airbox.
I rivited the pieces together & I can aim the open end where I want it.
