CB coax through the 3rd brake light???
Getting ready to install my radio and wanted to get a Wilson 1000 mag. mount to put on the roof. Going to put it about a foot or so in front of the brake light and have heard a few have ran the coax through the lens somehow. Haven't seen any pics though. Is there a way to put a grommet or something there to make a tight seal? Or, did they just notch the lens? I would like something permanent and weather proof without having to drill the roof for now.

Thinking about going ahead and drilling the roof now. Anyone know if putting the antenna about a foot or so from the rear of the cab will hinder performance any? I know puttin it smack dab in the middle is the best for omni, but it sure looks ugly there (just a preference).

Yes slightly. On your truck drop the doom light and drill your hole there 5/8" I believe. That will be optimum location. The use a snake or coat hanger and fish it too the pillar post and down it removing it is easier (pillar post that is). I install them all the time this way. Remember drop the whip all the way down in the coil and lift 1/4" to start and that should get you right close to 1-2 flat on your SWR's. Best is 1or less on 1 and 40. Then give me a shoot on a good skip night 311 Mesa AZ the Silverbullet.

I don't think the roof brace will allow for exact center mounting. Honestly, I think exact center vs offset a little is splitting hairs anyway. The radiation pattern won't look that much different.
I mounted the CB antenna 1 foot rear of center and my VHF/UHF antenna 1 foot forward.
The headliner was a PITA.

What's the best method of getting into the headliner without dropping it all the way? Can it all be done going through the rear dome light, or can I get to it from the back window. I plan on mounting it just a foot or so in front of the rear glass. Are there any push plugs that will get stripped when or if I pull the headliner down?

I would go through the brake light before drilling a hole in the roof. I ran the coax on the bottom side of the light and have not had any leaks. You can run a fish tape from the 3rd brake light to the pillar without pulling done the headliner.

Also in my opinion the head liner is no biggie. I installed Recon cab lights and had to drop the headliner. 15 min. to drop and about 30 minutes to re-install. It doesn't get much easier as far as headliners go....

I watched a pretty good how to online and then went to work. I was very surprised at how fast and easy it was.
I'll admit that it would have taken me longer if I hadn't watched the how to;The internet is an amazing tool.
