Amsoil return line question
Alright, so I mounted up the BMK and plumbed it in and it works great, however, I'd like to do away with the return line going into the filler cap. I received some great support on here from peeps that have already done it, but they all had different valve covers than my 06. There is no plastic shroud, just a one piece cover, which may or may not be aluminum. It is appears to be some sort of polycarbonate. Has anyone out there successfully drilled and tapped this style of valve cover? I'm wondering if the sides are any thicker than the top... I've searched previous forums (forae?
) and didn't see anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may not want to, [I put a Frantz bypass on mine], and I had the option you are talking about [oil filler cap] and did not want too, so I just did it simpler, cleaner way IM0 (less lines up top) and put it back in oil pan. Your cover is not aluminum. If I were to do the way you describe, I would just take the cover off. Very very easy to do. Then you can see exactly what you have to work with. You will also have the advantage of being able to clean out the valve cover if you happened to get any small pieces of polycarbonate in it when drilling and tapping. Also be able to assess fit and etc. Good Luck. I would not want it in the oil filler cap either. If nothing else, for looks alone. I would put it toward the back somewhere. Let us know how it goes.

nelrod,
thanks for the info. I had the cover off yesterday and it seemed pretty thin, that combined with the fine threads of a 1/8" NPT kinda make me squirmy about tapping it and having it work loose. I could use the hollow self-tapper that came with the kit and then epoxy it in I guess. Yeah, the cover comes off lickety split and the reusable o-ring make it a cinch. Just wondering what others have done.
Thanks again!

can you give me an idea what to look for, or where to look for the return port? I guess it would make sense that it would be on the passenger side of the block... just not sure what the bugger would look like.
.I don't plan on running twins... 'course, one never knows...
Thanks for your help!

You could always use a bulkhead fitting in the side of the valve cover. Simple and easy to install. Probably cheaper than what you'll get from Cummins. Installed correctly, they're very strong and leak proof. I have two of them in the oil pan of my track car.
