airbox
i drilled mine in the bottom (used a dead bolt hole saw) to no effect, then i taped them shut, and did 2 in the front.
no big change on my 4x4 ORP mileage, finally went a FIPK, then a strait pipe. no chg in MPG yet. steady ~16mpg OEM, prolly get ~17 now ...

I drilled and installed a plastic 90 degree drain pipe elbow on the bottom of the airbox. The engine seems to breath a little better at WOT. The filter minder doesn't pull down to 100% anymore and I get a little more turbine whine.

i drilled a 4" hole in the bottom of my box before i changed to a bhaf back in last june... i didn't notice any performance gains with the holey airbox but it sounded better..
Drilled 4" hole in the bottom of the air box (previous truck); used ABS elbow & pipe for home made ram air. Didn't make any difference...that was a stock truck though. It might make a differance if bombing?
I was considering drilling a hole in the bottom of my airbox as well. Once I got to looking at it, I realized the filter would still be very restrictive. I decided to drill 3 3" holes in the top of the box instead. What a diffrence. I almost feel as if I have no restriction at all. And without all that air having to go through the filter element, I've been able to extend the air filter changes indefinetly.

I'm surprised you didnt juts leave one 90 on the turbo, install a 2 foot long section of pipe that pases through the 6 inch hole you hole sawed in your hood. topped with another 90 facing the wind to act as a nice scoop/ birdcatcher
I drilled three holes in my stock air box with no effect on mileage. I scratched that idea and went with the Scotty Ram Air III and gained nearly 1mpg with a legit "seat of the pants" improvement.
