I personally tried about every combination you could conceive
on the stock airbox when I still had mine. However,.....NONE
of them even came close to the temperature reduction I have
seen with the Scotty II Air System!! Most of the members
on this site who have tried the Scotty II will agree with that
I think. I also tried the AFE Mega Cannon and did not see
temperatures as low as I do with my Scotty II!!

I hole sawed a 3'' hole in the dirty side of my 2500's air box w/ K&N (largest you can make without hitting the clean side) and another in the firewall. Then connected them together with 3'' RV dump hose. Left the factory inlet intact. Cost about 50¢ for the hose and took less than an hour. Been running it for close to five years. The turbo whistle will be louder in the cab.
I have a Scotty in my 3500 and results were darn near the same. Both are modified to around 350 HP.
Another advantage of this system is when it gets real cold I can easily remove the hose from the firewall, fold the insulation back over the hole and direct the end of the hose close by the turbo. Believe it or not many times in the Montana winter the intake temps are too cold for maximum diesel efficiency, mileage and power suffer.
There is a several page thread at TDR about this entitled Watch out Scotty.
Maybe someone who is a member could search for it and post a link.
