AEM Dryflow
Wanna let my '06 breathe easier, but after reading the K+N sagas, I'm left stumped....Oiled, or paper
The PG7 looks good, but I want to know about the new AEM Dryflow filters
http://trucks.aempower.com/default.asp
There is only one thread here about them
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ht=aem+dryflow
Anybody using one yet??

If it flows better than the stock airbox and filters as good as they say, I will be buying one in the near future. I don't understand why there is no one else making a similar setup with a BHAF instead of a oiled filter.

I think it is about time for something like this, cause lets face it, oiling a filter is fine on a quad runner, or a lawn mower, but it is a pain, and is messy on a pickup.

as far as the bhaf set-up, is there anything wrong with using a slightly smaller filter? I've seen several references to using a 42790 (i think).
I'm not real thrilled about ripping out my 3 day old airbox....I'd like to find a way to put a high flow filter of some kind into the stock airbox...
I dunno, but for the price, I think that dryflow would be a good deal compared to paper....If what I've read is true

Ok, someone help me out here. I went to the website and they have what looks like might be a very good filter here. However, I just don't see it when comparing the actual data from the ISO tests.
The AEM Dryflow results are here and the three competitors results are here.
The only area where the AEM Dryflow 9" element seems to be clearly better is in efficiency. It starts at 98.X and increases to 99.x over it's life. The Airade filter starts at 95.x and increases to 98.x but significantly outflows the AEM filter as far as I can tell, here are some estimated (eyball) data points from the graphs:
Based on these estimates I don't see where the AEM filter is significantly outflowing the stock filter and it's certainly being trounced by the other filters in flow rate.
And they show some silly bar graph of it flowing 900+ CFM ..... @ 28" H2O. Yeah sure. That's well above any standard restriction for even the "big rig" engines I think.

Air flow gurus
Guys, I think you are looking at the restriction backwards. Think even at 28" of restriction the filter still flows 900cfm. I think thats right but hopefully some of the air flow gurus will help me out. ks

Oh brother, let's not go down this road again .... abc4yew, go read the SP BHAF thread or some of the other air filter threads on here, we've covered all the bases many times.
In the flow vs. restriction tests, it's the restriction that is being measured from a new/clean filter when flowing that amount of air (CFM). So the lower the restriction the easier flowing the filter is. Trust me.
This filter to me looks equivalent to the stock setup / standard BHAF (good filtration), but is reusable and smaller which are both pluses, but it doesn't look to me to outflow it.

Ok...without spiraling into the flow/restriction/performance thing again:
you guys who have purchased these, what do you think so far?? You've probably got a few miles on them by now.............

I am also interested in hearing current users thoughts. I was going to hold off due to warrenty concerns, but they can smack you for improper maint. if you have issues with the stock airbox.

I couldn't decide between the scotty 5 or the afe stage 2 for my 06. From reading a zillion reviews I ended up with the afe stage 2. Did I make the right choice? I don't know but, I know I don't want to be the ginny pig for a new product that I can't research. Good luck and if you get it let us know how it works so others can know from your experience
