6spd to Auto Swap

Ok,

I've found numerous threads on swapping auto's to 6spd's but none going the other way.

Basically i don't pull all that much so I really don't need the 6spd, but I bought it cause it was a good deal. On top of not pulling that much, the 6spd is no drag racer. The only +'s i've noticed is, I can turn my smarty up higher than someone with an auto and I get a bit better mileage (1 or 2) than my older auto in town.

So, the question is, has anyone swapped an auto inplace of the 6spd? If so what kind of cost was involved.

For me changing out the sterring column would not be a big deal I would probably put a floor shifter in or something like that, as well as putting an aftermarket gear indicator like from Lokar or something...

thanks in advance...
-Brian

I'm sure you can find someone to swap you out, and maybe even make some money doing it.

I'd love to have a 6speed, but all the stop and go driving I do, it'd kill my knee.

If you didnt do it until next summer, I would swap you. I have a 2006 auto. I will be moved to TX in the spring. I have a Goerend VB in it now and will have a Goerend TC in it by then probably.

Dang, I wish you had an '05 or we could just trade parts

Its not that hard, but its MUCH MUCH easier to have a donor truck, since you need to change a lot of parts between the year, and it needs to be the same year truck.
Harness, ecm, transfer case, driveshafts(I know the 6spds have larger Ujoints, not sure about the spline count on the output of the Tcase/trans), column, pedals,(hydraulics), flywheel/flexplate, and other associated trans parts.

The best, easiest, and only way I'd do it is

Park the auto donor truck next to the manual donor truck in a shop or garage and start swapping parts from one to the other. That way everyone get's what they want without running to the parts store or DC parts counter every hour.

Otherwise its gonna cost you alot more

the last one you just have to look around and find what you are looking for. i called and with my core it would be around $6000 to do it all right with built up parts. i want the man but $$$$$ is keeping me from it. i wish though!!

I dont think you need a kit from anyone to go from auto to 6 spd. Here are the parts I found new.

G56 $3336 (new)
SBC clutch/flywheel/hydraulics CON FE $1350 (new)
clutch pedal assembly
hydraulic assembly $70 (new)
driveshaft $239 (new)

Right at $5k, but you dont have to buy a kit that comes with a used up trashed G56. Remanned manuals are usually pretty bad from what Ive seen.

Finding another truck that wants to do the swap is definitely best, just start swapping parts. The electronics for the auto would be the worst part.
